Portugal Hello, my name is Rebecca Slade. I am studying
a Masters in Tourism and Hospitality Management. I chose to come to Bournemouth University
because of its location really. I liked the environment when I first came down here, so
it immediately stuck in my decisions. I came across Bournemouth University when I first
applied for my undergraduate course, which I also did here. I did Ecology and Wildlife
conservation, and after studying that for three years, I decided to continue with Bournemouth
University. I applied to University through UCAS, and
it was quite easy to do. At the time I had the help of the teachers at the English school
that I came to beforehand. It was quite an easy process. You give all the information
you have that's given to you, and it was quite easy and adaptable to get into.
I am studying tourism and hospitality management masters degree, and Bournemouth is quite well
known for School of Tourism. I am not necessarily interested in tourism side, but more wildlife
tourism and eco tourism which quite easily transferred from ecology into the tourism
industry. My learning experience has been great, I have
enjoyed every single step of it. At the beginning it was quite hard, it was quite a challenge
to get into the lecture style of teaching, but after a few times of doing that, it became
easy and quite normal. The learning experience of the masterís degree has been similar to
the one of my undergraduate, however there has been more seminar and one to one sessions,
rather than a big group of people, which have been beneficial because you get to know your
lecturers, and they get to know your capabilities. All my lectures are on Talbot Campus where
there is a library that is quite handy to go into, there is lots of space and lots of
books, there is always a computer free that you can sit down at. There is also the Postgraduate
Zone which is quite handy to have. There is also the coffee shop Costa and Starbucks,
itís quite nice to sit down with a cup of coffee between lectures. There are lots of
clubs and societies that you can always get involved in, there is something for everyone
whether it's sporty or arty, there is always something.
I live in Bournemouth town centre with two other girls that I did my undergraduate with.
It's quite easy to get around Bournemouth, and to come into Uni, there are always buses,
but I always walk.
It's quite an easy walk, and quite nice as well. Uni isn't that far, maybe 20 minutes
by bus and 40 minute walk. I quite like being really close to the sea, with lots of fresh
air, you donít feel like you are in a city. I quite like Bournemouth life, there's always
something going on. In town its really buzzy, pubs all along the high street, all the different
clubs have different student nights which is quite handy so you can choose which ones
to go to in the week. It's quite nice to sit on the beach and have a few drinks with
your friends. Bournemouth gardens are always quite nice to go and sit in, and there is
also the mini golf which I enjoy. I definitely recommend coming to Bournemouth
University, it has been a worthwhile experience, definitely enjoyed it, and wouldn't want
anyone to miss out on it.
