Hi, today we'll talk about an very interesting accessory for
Canon DSLR users...
The Sympla Remote Control from Manfrotto!
This new product it's a remote control compatible
with the EOS line of cameras from Canon.
It has a great water resistant construction and finish.
It employs a clamp design which can be mounted
on tripod arms, legs or rigs.
It uses two AAA batteries to work...
and has an USB cable which connects to the camera...
allowing to electronically control various functions.
We can control focus at different speeds...
and also set two focus points for rack focusing.
It can also do a one click autofocus...
Turn the LiveView on or off...
Control the digital zoom...
And work as a shutter release button for photos
or to start or stop a video recording.
It's important to mention that it can only control
the focus of AF lenses...
and it's performance varies depending on the model.
It can be easily mounted on any tripod arm.
It's also very useful for shoulder mounted rigs...
because we can control the functions of the camera
without letting go of the rig handles.
It's very easy to use...
First, plug the USB cable into the camera.
You can use extension cables for larger distances.
Make sure to put your lens in AF mode...
and turn on the camera and the Manfrotto Remote Control.
The red button works to take photos or start recording...
and has LED indicators to know in which mode it is.
Press it for a few seconds to switch
between the video and photo modes.
The AF button allows us to autofocus
on any part of our image.
For manual focusing, we can use the variable mode...
where the focusing speed is up to us.
We can also use the fixed mode...
where the selected focusing speed doesn't change...
no matter how slow or fast we turn the focusing ***.
We can use very fast focusing speeds...
or very slow ones for more subtle results.
In the fixed mode, we can also set two focus
memory points to do a precise rack focus.
First, select the desired focusing speed...
Then, focus on your first point and press the M1 button
for a few seconds until the LED light starts blinking.
Lastly, focus on your second point and press the M2 button
until the two LED lights remain lit.
Both points are erased when the focus speed changes...
when AF is pressed...
or when the controller is turned off.
Remember that the AF motor of the lens
produces sound when focusing...
so you have to keep that in mind when recording
the audio of your videos.
Let's listen to the sound of the Sigma 17-50mm
recorded by the internal microphone of the Canon T3i.
We're now recording with the RODE NT3 microphone...
let's listen to the Sigma 17-50mm one more time.
It's always better to use focus manually with DSLR cameras...
but there are situations where this can be a little difficult.
The Manfrotto Remote Control it's excellent for those cases...
and it's especially useful on jibs or rigs where reaching
the camera controls can be a problem.
It's important to test it with different lenses
so you know how each one behaves
and choose the ones that produce the best results.
