This is Duke University.
With the sort of spirit you'd see before kickoff of a big game
Duke University's upperclassmen prepare for a big moment on campus
welcoming the class of 2019 on their freshmen move-in day.
"The moment they step on campus to see helping faces help them and let them know that they
have someone to lean on, someone to answer any questions they have."
As more than 1700 freshmen from 48 states and 79 countries pulled up to their residence
halls on East Campus, members of the First-year Advisory Council made life easier by removing
their suitcases, boxes and bags and hauling them inside.
"It was a nice reception. It was something that felt, you know, took away that sadness
and made me feel a little bit excited for this year."
First-year students, like Chris Arora from Alabama, and their parents, are focused on
getting settled.
"'Cause he's gone from home I want him to walk in and just feel like it's at home. I
just really want him to be comfortable here and happy."
While many students have been anticipating move-in day all summer long, some have been
waiting even longer.
"I actually wanted to go to Duke since I was about 8 years old. My third grade teacher
kind of introduced me to it and I kind of fell in love with the physics program and
with all of the extracurriculars here, so I really wanted to come here."
Once the bags are stowed away, freshmen like Arora look forward to meeting their classmates.
"Meet a lot of people that kind of share the same academic values, social values, that
kind of gist of the college experience."
