What was your task on ''Chaos on Deponia''?
Well, on Deponia 2 I mostly worked on the cut-scenes
and also designed characters at once.
On the cutscenes themself I created the characters as so-called ''stills''.
Poki designed the storyboards
and I translated it in Deponia-language
and splited everything cinematicly up,
which was afterwards animated by Rino.
I delivered the basic-poses
I've already been working on the characters on the first game
Where I designed Rufus and Goal and for the most part all the other characters.
What about you Gunnar? What was your job at 'Chaos on Deponia'?
How do you call it? I'm the supervisor for the animations.
How do you call it? I'm the supervisor for the animations.
From animator to supervisor.
I manage the animations-list and assign tasks to the animators.
When their done I'm looking over them
if they look nice or not
Please do it over again.
And keep an eye on that the production stays in the given schedule.
and scream if it's not the case.
How many folks are working at ''Chaos on Deponia" in your department?
It's changing always a little.
At the beginning we had 15 people.
Altogether or at once we had 15 people?
Altogether we had between 15 and 17 people.
Yes. Now in the final stage a little less
because we had to redistribute the folks to upcoming projects,
where we have also narrow deadlines.
There you have to manage the people too.
Now in the polishing-phase...
It's a really nice hagging.
Like when you give me this I give you that.
It's like dealing with trading cards.
Just with living animators.
What are their skill-points. Here, take him. You will get two of them.
But in the end it's like that.
But in the end it's like that.
Sort of.
Like I said, in the final stage I only have 4 animators.
How long have you been drawing for "Chaos on Deponia"?
How long have you been drawing for 'Chaos on Deponia'
Round about february.
Yeah. I think so too.
On february we really get started.
Since then you are busy with the characters as well as with the backgrounds?
For the most part the backgrounds were done.
Micha ideally delivers in this case preliminary work.
He's actually done with the backgrounds for the third installment of Deponia.
This way it has to be done otherwise we can't work efficiently.
This way it has to be done otherwise we can't work efficiently.
If that's not ready we couldn't do anything.
Often you have to look over it.
Especially because of some modifications we have to change in-house some of the backgrounds. Oooh, yes.
Is their still some pleasure to draw for a project although you work for a long time on it?
Is their still some pleasure to draw for a project although you work for a long time on it?
For me Deponia is a nice world.
I like Deponia.
I like Deponia.
Especially the setting.
In the end Deponia 2 is much different from the first one.
Now it's much more maritime.
Many things were added.
I liked it and it was really fun to work on it.
Of course it's also nice to work on something new, but Deponia is in this regard very grateful.
How's about you?
I totaly agree with Simone
The art-style is beautiful
You gladly play around with the style and with the characters
Of course, like during every project, you have phases when you want to see something new.
But the next day everything is fine.
Because you grow fond on the characters.
What was really difficult during the development of "Chaos on Deponia"?
The plan.
The plan?
The schedule was very difficult on the project.
Since this was the middle part of the triology we had to rearrange alot concerning the story.
Also the animationslist was changed which affected the animations itself.
Those lists should be about 70% finale
- when you start animating -
so that you can plan and manage your timeframes and scheduals
During the writing process many animations were added and the list of animations were changed again.
Many things had to be new designed or Poki picture it different during the writing process.
What was your favourite scene in "Chaos on Deponia"?
I think my favourite animation is, because I animated this scene myself
During the cutscenes I only created the stills
some things you just can't do with After Effects.
where Rufus destroys a bridge
and Goal falls into the water
and then there's this ariel-scene where she arise of the water with splashes.
This made a lot of fun. I liked it very much.
This made a lot of fun. I liked it very much.
And then they snootch, oh, also there's a lot of love in the game.
I placed a lot of snootches in there.
Also between men.
What, which men?
There is this real disgusting cutscene between Rufus and Liebold
There is this real disgusting cutscene between Rufus and Liebold
There is this real disgusting cutscene between Rufus and Liebold
It's of course a big missunderstanding
For those, who know it, it's a little bit lent on "Ren & Stimpy"
A created close-up, which is really disgusting
