Hi this is Jarett Ramones with The Rampage Online we are here Euphoria 1612 hair & nail
salon
and were here with local artist Andreyna Cazaras
I doodled since I was little as always been fascinated with it watching my older brother
do art and everything but I guess it wasn't a really till
some point in high school when I realize it didn't suck anymore
except for a while yes it was my high school art teacher who find it made me
realize that I didn't suck and that I should kinda
pursue it and go deeper into it
I feel like a change my mind often because I can get lost in a bunch of different
things
currently have been doing a lot of oil painting
just because it's fun to work with and play with and I do a lot of pen work
but I really like figure drawing
but I feel like the general population does not appreciate that as much
and thats no fun
What inspires your work?
Kinda lots of things
and everything to be honest I don't I don't feel like I draw inspiration from
any certain place it's just wherever I go
like if I go somewhere and I see something thats super
eye-catching your beautiful in nature like I'll take a picture a bit like
I'll just have a bunch a reference photos from everywhere and like anything
just I don't know I can't really pinpoint like a certain thing that
inspires me
everything life I guess I'll
Is there a central theme to the work you are working on right now?
okay well the oil paintings
yes I've been I've been really into like a lot of plants in
nature instead but I'm always
into people like a I love portraiture and
I like I like drawing and painting people
and I like mixing the two hump
Is there a reason you like women more than men because they seem to display well happen to display those are like all desert plants
well like half of them like those are desert and plants
These ones actually it doesn't those are like kind of tropical
I like painting women more I'd
just because I feel like I like
femininity and I feel like the female form
is really nice its it's really fun
they'd she's so many more like curves and nice
like shadows in heavily traveled so much
in painting men I've actually been thinking about it like
getting like people to model so I could do that but I don't know
maybe I'm just more familiar with the female body
So you had a show here last night correct? How would you say that went?
okay the show last night
I knew it really well on I was nervous at first because I didn't know how
everyone would react
I normally don't show stuff like my I'll
like my figure drawings because most people don't appreciate it as much
or they're just like "what?!" naked people
but I mean I got a lot of really positive feedback a lot of people showed
up
a lot of people really enjoyed it I got to meet a lot of people
really interesting people
Is there something you are hoping people take away from your work?
Thats kind of a tough question
Im not sure
Well what i mean is you obviously have a bunch of mediums here, i was just wondering if your hoping people will see or will find in? Or are you just
okay because in a lot of my like my paintings in particular
I feel like they're all like
I kinda hide a lot of things in my paintings
and I feel like a lot of different emotions go into a lot of them
and when I can see it and like I know like it takes an act like what I was
feeling when I was painting it
like that I enjoy that it really
I don't really think about what other people are gonna
if they find to those things are they realize the things like as long as I'm
content
with it i'm happy and just other people are enjoying it
I i enjoy to share you know if other people are appreciating
good
currently a ever
I i've shown action I a couple places downtown before
and just like a little places like my friend had like a cereal bar thing
have shown there before and when I was in high school
I did this this art scholarship thing
and they had my stuff at like at them any guys for a little bit
I feel like a lot of people don't really appreciate it as much as they should
but it's all around this you know that that's what was here first then it's
beautiful like
people people often like search for beauty in like perfection
but I mean nature can be really in perfect in really chaotic
in crazy but I feel like it's still its still look beautiful at least to me like
its it's always just so interesting to look at
You have figure drawings here correct?
yes
Is there a reason why they are black & white and don't have very much nature in them?
well honestly it's because
I was actually like live models
I was just working off of life
so I mean thats just how that ended up but I mean
I like them better that way just black and white
I feel like it was a little more classic
Do you work with live models often?
I dont anymore
I mean I'd like to
but I mean I was when i was at Fresno City College taking
figure drawing class is there so I had like the environment
there I liked it I like to have like the right environment
set up for me I just feel like right now on my own
since i would have to do it on my own and i dont really have time for it
and then I feel like it might be kind of weird to you if I'm just like
Haley can I hire you like in so you can do it in my room
like that might be weird for them I don't know but I'm trying to find
or gather a group of people that would be down
so I can do some figure drawing because that sounds like so much fun
Can you describe to me some of the challenges you have faced as a mexican american woman in Fresno?
I'm not sure of what challenges
I've faced
Obviously there are a lot of males working out here, do you face any diversity from people who might not take you as serious?
story of my life
but like in every aspect
honestly though i kinda keep
to myself in the whole are realm and
I mean yeah I do you honestly feel like people don't take you as seriously
especially it may also be because I'm younger
and I'm I look like a baby I'm not sure
yeah I can I can definitely
yes the older like
artist guys don't take you as seriously
I really don't care though
I'm not worried about them because I'm trying to focus on what I'm doing
so honestly I don't really think about what they have to say or do
So what can you tell me about your training?
well I mean I I've taking our
like in middle school like just like a basic art class in high school
I took Art and then like I was saying
my art teacher will in high school was actually the one that like made me
realize
that I didn't suck and she was like a
you should consider taking AP Art because everyone only took it on the
senior
but she told me to do it as a junior and i was like "what? why??"
like I should take Art 2 and she was like no you should you should do it like you do
really good in it
than I did I took it and I was like oh my gosh
I love this I want to do this
so that was cool and I mean I took Art
like throughout high school and I'll TA (Teacher's Assistant) for her
so I was pretty much just like my senior year I was like in her class like the
first half of the day
like into spent working on I and then
I went to Fresno City College for like a year
and I took some art classes there like a figure drawing class and
printmaking class
I feel like that's as far as I went into for
like education in arts but I mean
So for the most part you would say you are self taught?
I feel like everyone kinda
like you can take a class and
I feel like your pick up certain ways of doing things
but in a way I feel like everyone can have developed their own
early like way of working and stuff find it on their own
but I mean all of my teachers have like taught me
really valuable like lessons in they've all like inspired me
in certain ways like I'm
It shouldn't really be considered self-taught because they've
taught me so much
but I mean at the same time it was in just them
Is there any lesson that hit you in particular or molded where you are?
Well
I feel like in
Well one of my teachers at Fresno City College kind of taught me to
be a little work a little more freely
with my work like when I was younger I felt like
art was supposed to be perfect because
I mean for a while I wasn't very good so just wanted to make everything look like
exactly how it should look
so everything was very structured well i feel like
even now my stuff is kind of structured but she made me
she made me let loose a little bit like
allow myself to and it just be a little more chaotic
I guess I'm I feel like I'm still kinda working on that though
like it's in the back of my head but I'm not not fully there
it'll happen you know eventually
What does perfection mean to you?
I dont know, its just, i feel like its in the back of my head
if people see something like it has to be completely
accurate and if it's not they're gonna notice
or they're gonna be like mmm that's a little off but I know that like everyone
has their own style
and it's not perfect and to see the light let that go
but I feel like it's just in life in everything it's just always kind in the
back of my head
like no matter what
Is that why you choose nature?
You know what? Kind of..
Just because its so
it's more free you know and it's not perfect
and even when it's not perfect it's still really cool
yeah
