Hello :) This is Madlen again! Welcome to a new episode of Sweets for geeks! I am happy you are watching this video.
We will be making the Pea Shooter from Plants vs Zombies Garden warfare 2 today!
Since the game just got released.
For the cake pop basic recipe I recommend watching
my Zelda Triforce recipe
or my
Pokéball cake pop recipe
There you can exactly see how I am making the cake pops
that I have prepared today already.
It is important that you are using white chocolate as a cover
and green cake pop sticks.
I got the green cake pop sticks from Xenos, I think they cost 3 Euro.
And now I am not sponsored by them, I just got them there ;).
I recommend using a flat cake pop holder
or use a styrofoam block
in which you can put the cake pops easily to be held flat.
So let's get started!
You will need the following equipment:
Pots for a watherbath
Or you can use a chocolate melting pot as I have
2 small bowls
2 spoons
tooth picks or modell tools
edible food color in either black or brown
clay pots
green cake pop sticks
a chocolate form for leafs or branches
a flat cake pop holder
cake pops.
For the decoration you will need:
taste neutral oil
green food coloring
Smarties in green and brown
I have used approx. 2 big Smartieboxes.
800gram white chocolate
Firstly, we take 200 gram white chocolate and melt it.
After your chocolate has molten add 1 tea spoon oil.
This will make the chocolate more liquid, which makes it easier to cover the cake pops with it.
Fill the white chocolate in a bowl.
I am using green food coloring today. It is important that it is either paste or
gel color.
It has to be suitable for chocolate.
There is one from Americolor - leafgreen and also one from Wilton - leafgreen.
I am trying both today.
Also not sponsored by any of these companies. ;)
YET! :D
Get your white chocolate and color it green.
I am using about 1 pinch of the Wilton leaf green color.
You can use more, it is a matter of taste and one has to see how the color is developing.
Once you like the color get your form and fill it up with chocolate.
I have bought this form on Amazon for the leafs the pea shooter has.
I think it wasn't that expensive, below 10 Euro or so.
But if you do not want to buy a form like this, which I can understand,
then just take some baking paper and draw leafs on it with the chocolate.
Put this in the fridge as well.
Once they are cold you can easily peel them off the baking paper.
Once your form is filled, take a knife and even it out.
Potential too much chocolate can be put back into the bowl.
Put the from into the fridge for 30 mins.
Repeat the process of making chocolate leafs for the amount of cake pops that you have.
I have used approx. 300-400 gram chocolate for this and have repeated the process about 3 times.
Whilst your leafs are cooling you can take your cake pops and your green Smarties.
Now we will glue the Smartie to the cake pop.
We will use a little bit of green chocolate for that.
Use a tooth pick to put it on the back of the Smartie.
Then we push the Smartie on the cake pop and hold it for 15 seconds until it sticks to the cake pop.
These are our prepared pea shooter. We will put them into the fridge for another 15 mins
so that the Smarties cool well.
See you!
After our Smarties are cooled well, we will cover the cake pops completely in green chocolate.
Just get your bowl and your chocolate and
a cake pop
Normally, I would dip the cake pop into the chocolate completely, but am scared that the Smartie will fall off. Therefore, I will use a spoon to cover the cake pop in chocolate.
Drizzle :D
Let the excess chocolate drip off by tapping on your wrist.
Never tap the cake pop itself, since the stick might come out to the top again.
Repeat for the rest of your cake pops and put them into the fridge once more for cooling.
Ok, after 20 mins our leafs should be cooled well enough
so that we can remove them out of the form.
Most likely the longer parts will break, but that is not a problem, because we only need shorter ones.
Just start by pushing down the sides and then easily remove your chocolate.
For example a leaf.
Repeat for the rest of your form, until you have removed all of the leafs out of the form.
After we have prepared all the leafs, we also take the cake pops out of the fridge.
We will decorate the back head with a flower, since this is how the pea shooter also looks in the game.
For this I am taking a green leaf, some chocolate on a tooth pick and put the chocolate on the leaf.
Then I push the leaf on the cake pop until it sticks.
Put the cake pops into fridge once more for 10 minutes.
Do not throw your excess chocolate away. You can fill it into a little plastic bag (zip lock)
put it into the fridge,
until it is firm
put to the side and melt again next time.
I am using these special clay pots. They are approx. 2cm x 3 cm and have a little hole at the bottom.
Which is great for our cake pop sticks, because then we can put them into the hole.
I have also bought these at Amazon, 10 pieces, and they cost me maximum 10 Euro, I cannot remember exactly.
But I am putting all the links in the description box down below, if you want to remake this whole recipe exactly the way I did.
Now we melt 50 gram white chocolate again. We do not need oil this time.
We will use it for making the white tiny dot on the ear.
After everything is cooled well and the white chocolate has molten, you also take the rest of your decoration. Now let's do as follows:
We use one clay pot and put it on top of the hole of the cake pop holder. Then we get a cake pop and put it through both.
Fill it up with brown Smarties so that it looks like soil.
If you have some green Smarties left you can use them as well.
For decoration we put some branches into the clay pot as well.
Cover up with some leafs.
Now use a tooth pick and some white chocolate to put a white dot on the eye.
Originally, I said use a brown or black edible marker. As an alternative you can also use dark chocolate.
I have realized that this works better, since my edible markers did not draw very well on the green chocolate.
So now we are doing the same as for the white chocolate. We use a tooth pick and dark chocolate to draw the eyes and the dark part of the canon.
This is why I could not mention the 50 gram dark chocolate as part of the ingredients originally.
However, if you have good edible markers, of course you can use them.
So, as you can see the dark chocolate works good and covers better than the edible markers.
Repeat for the rest of your cake pops.
Tadaaaa.
These are our finished pea-shooter cake pops
from Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare 2.
