"Starters" by Lissa Price takes place in a dystopian future after the Spore Wars
wipe out a large portion of the population.
The only groups to receive vaccinations were the young people known as Starters
who were too young to work and live in poverty,
and the Enders who are the elderly folks that are basically running the show.
In order to earn some money and save her sickly younger brother from starving,
Callie signs up for a program where she gets a chip implanted in her brain
so the Enders can rent her body and feel young again.
How would you like some old person going for a joyride in your body?
It's kinda weird.
But something's gone wrong with Callie's rental.
She wakes up in a strange place with a gun in her hand,
and an old woman's voice in her head telling her to kill the senator.
What I really enjoyed about reading "Starters" was that Callie gets thrown into
these exciting and thrilling situations but she's just as clueless about what
was going to happen next as I was.
The author invites the reader along for the ride as Callie pieces together the
deep dark secret to the body rentals.
If you like stories about young people taking control of their own lives or you
just can't get enough dystopian sci-fi like Hunger Games,
I suggest "Starters" by Lissa Price. And be sure to watch out for the sequel
"Enders" which is due out in January.
