Hey guys this is Martin again from SIRS-Electronics.
And today I am going to talk about the DMXIS.
The DMXIS is a very cool little DMX interface which allows performers and people
That are on stage that they donít really have the helping hand when it comes to lighting,
To cue their own shows and program their own settings so that they can run everything
by themselves.
You donít have to have anybody there triggering all the shows, sequences, scenes and all that.
And today Iím going to show you how to setup a footswitch pedal how to setup
Presets and how to just do basic chases and isolations and stuff like that.
Basically all you are going to need is a momentary footswitch pedal, a laptop and of course your
DMXIS.
So this is how itís done.
I finally got everything setup here, all the equipment on and everything.
I am going to show you real quick how to wire everything up it is very simple and really
to the point.
I previously daisy chain these two RGB LED fixtures. And I addressed one of them to address
1 and another one to address 4.
They are all powered up and everything is ready to go there. I got my DMX line coming in here.
So I am going to set that aside for now.
So basically I have my software open, then the next thing you are going to do, you are
going to connect your DMXIS with the USB cable that it comes with.
Connect that there.
Since we are going to be doing the footswitch operation here, we are going to connected
using a 1/4 inch mono jack.
This is a regular instrument cable.
One of the ends goes to the switch and the other end goes over here at the back of the DMXIS
So now that this has been connected. The next thing is the DMX cable.
Now that is all been connected, we are going to the DMXIS Software.
And what we are going to first check is make sure that we are actually getting DMX output signal.
So we are going to click over here to go back and then we are going to move one of the faders
up and down.
And you see there, we do have DMX signal coming out which is a very good thing.
Ok so this is what the home for DMXIS looks like.
We are going to go to the preset manager up here then click on that.
I already have some presets here setup but we are going to create a new bank.
Basically what a bank is a preset that hold presets.
So we are going to go down here on the corner. Click new.
And here is going to ask us to label the bank.
Letís just label it 3 and click OK.
Then we select the bank, and once you select the bank youíll see right here on the right
that there is no presets.
So you go down here to the bottom and click New and it is going to ask you to label
the preset and just label it 1.
And just click 'Ok'. So we go here and you select the preset and then go back hitting
preset manager.
And youíll see all the faders there. For this test I only have 6 available channels
that I am using.
I got 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. Basically it goes red, green, blue, and red, green, blue. That
is all I am using right now.
So the first thing we can create is a really easy preset. We could do a chase of red and
red between each one of the fixtures here.
So to do that you click Ctrl and you click the first fader which is red for the first
address.
And then 4 while still holding Ctrl that will select both of the faders.
So now you just can click and drag.
You will see that they are both dragging together while you are just clicking one.
You see that they are highlighted that means that they are together.
Now you go down here on the oscillator and you see here where it says type, if you click
that once now it is on sine.
This is a type of chase pattern that is going to do which is a smoothest one.
Now youíll see that they are not going all the way up. They are going like half way.
There is another little *** here called amount.
This will change how high the faders are going to travel from value to value.
So now they are going from 0 to 255. And all they are doing itís a flash is not really a chase.
You go here where it says chase. You select this, and now it will actually now oscillate them.
And that will give them that chase.
So depending how you move it and how you play around with it youíll get a different type
of effect.
So right now we are 3/4 of the way in. and you can see is more of a chase pattern.
You also got the speed which you could increase or decrease if you move it to 16 bars is really slow.
If you want to have more like a chase pattern select the 3/4 or maybe the 1/2 bar and that
gives you a pretty fast chase.
You could also change the shape which is pretty much just the shape of how the wave is going
to look the chase is going to look.
And then you got your master speed and your master level.
Those you donít really I mean you can mess with them but for now we are going to leave
them alone.
So now that we have this going here.
We are going to go back to the preset manager and you are going to make sure that your preset
is highlighted.
And you are going to go down here where it says overwrite.
That is going to save whatever changes you made on the faders.
This little sequence that we got going to that preset.
So you click overwrite.
Is going to ask you, are you sure you want to do this? You click yes and that is it.
Now we are going to create another preset.
So we go to New again and just label this 2 just to keep it simple.
And now we got another preset.
You highlight that and it is still going to be running the previews show.
Youíll see that the faders are still moving the same way they were before.
So how do you stop this? To stop this, the easiest way to do this is to hold Shift
You click the first one that is moving and then to the last one that is moving.
And that is going to highlight the whole line.
So you go down here to the oscillator and go where it says type and you click this until
it's off.
Now they're off you know they are not moving anymore.
So let's do letís say we want to do a white.
Just full on white preset. So we are going to select Shift again and we are going
to click one to all the way to six.
Because those are all the three channels I am using. So that is how you skip.
Instead of pressing Ctrl click, click, click then Shift click, click, click
And then goes to one point to the other point and selects all the faders in between.
So now you can move them all up together.
Just put them on full blast.
You go back to preset manager, make sure it is highlighted and you click overwrite and
click yes.
And now you got 2 presets save.
So now we are going to click one that is our first preset, which is the oscillating red
lights.
And now we got our preset 2 which is our full white.
Now for the footswitch part.
We are going to go here where it says show.
And it says footswitch settings. Click on there.
You could use a two channel footswitch or a single channel and you can create a bunch
of stuff between those two.
But for right now we are using a single channel footswitch. And we are going to go..
As for the footswitch type Normally Open that means that when you are not pressing
it, if the circuit is close or open.
That is going to vary on the polarity on the selector of your footswitch but we are going
To set it to where when you are not doing anything the circuit is open so it is not
going to trigger anything.
So we are going to set it there Normally Open Here I had previously had set for
The single click. You can put Load next preset so for when you tap it once the switch
it will load the next preset.
Then we have double click setting that is if you click it twice it will jump to the
previous preset.
So that is what you have saved there.
But if you see you can select and set it up to whatever you want it to be it is fully customizable.
For right now we are just going to do this.
Single click Load next preset, double click Load previous preset, click and
hold which means
If you click it and you hold it down it is going to do a different effect.
So for that we will have to go to the next bank.
Which means it goes, you know if you have a bank of different banks and
You want to go to the next one, just click and hold it and it will move it to the next bank.
You click once you go to the preset.
So now that we have that set, right here it says double click time.
If you want it to be like a fairly quick change, if you double click
Pretty quickly you can change the speed of the double click time and your click and hold time.
So we have the click and hold time all the way up so that it know when you are
Really holding on that means it is next so it doesnít just, if you tap it once it thing
it's selected.
You know it loads the next bank. You know so that is why I usually have that all the
way up right there.
And over here I usually have this down so that the double click time is friendly fast
so that is registers it fairly quickly.
So we are going to save settings. Now that we have that set, and we trigger one, you'll
see that it move to preset one.
And then if you trigger again, you see it goes to preset number 2. And that is being
all done with a footswitch.
Right now I am pressing it with my hand, you know it is meant to be press with your foot
but it is the same concept.
So now let's say I want to go to a different bank. I already have some previous banks written
in there.
So I just click and hold and there we go and there we go we are in bank one.
And to access the bank 1 you just click once and it takes you to the first preset.
That preset I just have all the lights off it's like a blackout.
I click again it goes to preset one.
Click again and then it will go to preset 2.
So that is pretty much how this works.
You just set everything there and this is the beauty of this software that with this footswitch.
It could be on the floor so that when you are playing guitar, singing or whatever it
is that you are doing DJing whatever it is.
With this you can trigger everything without people really known any of your stuff.
You could just have this down there somewhere just click on it with your foot.
And you can trigger all this cool things.
So it may take I little bit of training your brain to thinking ok which preset am I in,
how many clicks do I have to do.
But once you figure that out, which all that comes with practice, you could run this quite efficiently.
So you know as you see that is pretty much all there is to it.
You know you could do a mixture of selecting faders, changing the type of those chase.
The amount and you know you can create infinite amount of cool presets and setups.
So that is pretty much all there is to it guys.
So if you guys have any questions or comments, concerns or anything like that.
