Hey OL what’s up?
Oh hey. Not much. I’m getting ready to take a test.
How are you going to take a test here? What, are you meeting your teacher here?
No, I'm not meeting my teacher here. Let me show you. My teacher won’t even be in class
when I’m taking the test. The test is built into the Blackboard course management system.
All I have to do is log on, go to the testing area in the menu, click Begin, and start answering
questions. There are 50 questions to answer in 60 minutes. That’s plenty of time to
finish in, but not enough to look up the answers or anything.
How are they gonna know it’s really you taking the test?
Well, part of it is an honor system. You have to really know the material, because you only
have about a minute per question. If you don’t focus, you just have to move on to the next
question. Plus at the end of the semester, I have to go on campus and take a test where
I have to log in and show my ID, and that would be hard to fake.
How long does it take before you know how you did on a test?
I usually get my answers back fairly quickly. Here let me show you. As soon as I turn in
my test, I can go to the Grade Center and see my score and what I missed. Of course
if the test has essay questions, the teacher does have to read through those before they
can assign a grade. Those are normally finished in a day or two. Typically I know my test
scores much sooner in my online classes than in my regular classes.
Sounds like a pretty good deal. Do you take classes on campus and online?
Yeah, if I wasn't able to take my classes online and had to take everything on campus
-- I wouldn't be able to do this. Being able to work and go to school has made my life
a lot easier. Speaking of…I have to be at work at 4.
Guess I'll let you back to it then. See you later.
See ya.
