After I graduated undergrad, I thought
I wanted to be a lawyer
and as I was working in a law office
I realized what I really enjoyed was telling stories
My name is Lata Pandya and I'm associate producer
at TakePart Live
This is my Monster success story
You know we do a live show and it's a
continuation of what you've been talking about
all day. What's going on online,
what you're watching, what you're doing
[Voiceover]: "Here with us now is career
expert and author, Josh Shipp.
Good to see you again man."
TakePart Live is a great way of introducing
young people to some really important topics
and I was like, 'Wow, this is really cool.'
They had a job opening, so I applied through Monster.
Lata is incredible. It was a huge benefit to
our team, particularly the team that puts
together our news panels on a daily basis.
Her background was right, um, and, yeah, it
just worked out perfectly.
I was working at a immigration law firm.
and part of my daily duties was to take these
declarations. Everyday what I had to do
was to write a compelling story.
That's what journalists do.
That's what people in television do.
I started volunteering at a local radio station.
And from there I decided I wanted to go to journalism school.
I've been working in television since
I graduated Annenberg in 2009.
It's extremely important to find the right
person, and for this associate producer job
we looked through lots and lots of resumes
and checked out the qualifications we needed
for this position.
That was one of the reasons why we were
really interested in Lata, is she kind of
had an interesting blend of experiences.
We thought she'd be able to translate that
to our show.
It's one of those things where
you are just looking for the right fit
and if you go in and you present yourself
truthfully and to your own integrity
I think it shines through.
My biggest advice to job seekers
is to do your research.
Do, not just your research on the companies
and places that you are applying to,
but really take the time and do research on yourself.
I mean, is this the job that you want?
Or is this the job that you thought you wanted?
