>> ALEX: What we really wanted to achieve with R8
was for somebody to come along,
who'd never used the CMS before,
see maybe a still of the system,
and think I want to be using that system.
We now have a product which is not only fantastic functionally
but we can now back it up with a great interface.
>> RICHARD: Whilst the user interface is flat and it's got a consistent colour throughout,
the way you use the CMS remains the same.
There are some huge architectural changes underneath the hood
but you should see that the CMS is running smoother,
and faster through the changes that we've made.
>> SI: We've rewritten the editor from the ground up
and that's built on the Tiny MCE core.
Tiny MCE's core is really good because it has its own pure understanding of HTML5 elements.
We've done some really cool stuff with it;
in Internet Explorer, when you select a template you get six squares around an element,
but we'd struggled with Google Chrome and Firefox
because they didn't natively support that.
So what we've done is utilised some of Tiny's code
and written some of our own code on top of that.
Now our sub-templates get that atomic selection.
You might say "what's the big deal?" but it is about that definite user feedback,
You know "I've got a selection, I can delete it."
And that's really made the editor feel solid.
>> MARK: What I've been working on in this release is the parser.
Which is the engine behind the editor.
>> SI: The parser is what takes your content
and then enables us to publish it in different formats to different channels.
What we are doing with the new parser is much faster and more efficient
because we're loading the string from the editor straight into an XML DOM loader.
Although these changes won't be visible to the average Contensis user,
they will see speed improvements in loading and saving pages and templates from the editor.
>> SI: As part of R8, we've extended the Social Media Module to support Facebook integration.
So now when you create a social media post you can choose Twitter and Facebook.
The idea is to open up social media to the masses internally
but then push it through the channels which can authorise the various posts.
>> SI: I think it's fair to say that R8 is
the most tested version of Contensis every released
>> ALEX: I feel that it's a real step forward in terms of what Contensis has to offer now.
We have brought the system up to a level where we are also competing on a design level.
>> HENRIQUE: We changed the heart and brain of the system;
new company name, new product, new life.
