Hello everyone!
You're now watching the screencast tutorial for Lesson 11 in US History 2. We will be
creating a PADLET that will illustrate our Cold War timeline project.
If we look at the lesson guide, you'll see that you'll need to choose 15 events that
are either socially or politically relevant to the Cold War.
Let's go to Padlet. On the web-browser, let's Google Padlet. Let's click on this link. We're
now at the main page of Padlet. Click on the link "Build a Wall".
Great, we're ready for posting.
Double click anywhere on the screen, and you'll see a new post pop up. For the assignment
you'll need to share with us the Year, the event, a picture, and describe the event in
a 1 sentence description.
I've chosen to start out with 1945 - Yalta Conference. As you can see, it's really easy
to type in here. There's a heading that's in red. Underneath, I can write something,
like a sentence or description.
I'm going to put (P) at the end of the description (P)to signify a Political event.
Now we want to add a photo. You're going to click on the purple link; you'll see that
it says "paste URL of image." If I Google Yalta conference, in Google images, I'll have
a lot of pictures to choose from. I'm going to choose this one that includes a headline.
I'm going to click on "view original image". Then I'll right click, and choose Copy Image
URL. The link is going to go straight into our clipboard. I'm now going back to Padlet,
click on the purple link, and paste the URL. Now the image is pasted. There you go.
If you make any mistakes, you can click on the X, you can delete the photo. It looks
nice, so I'm going keep it. When I off click, then it's its own item. Now I have my own
item, I can click on the green pencil to edit or the red trashcan to delete the whole thing.
When I click edit, I can change anything, the header, sentence or even the image. If
I click on the photo, it zooms into a nice big photo, and it's great for presentations.
You can also drag the item across the screen.
Let's add a new item. We'll double click. Type in the heading. The description. We'll label
it as S for social or P for political.
In this situation, we'll label it as both s & P because the atomic bomb affected the world both politically and
socially.
Let's add a video this time. We'll do the same method which is clicking the purple link.
I found a video on YouTube. It's a nice small clip that's good for a presentation. Generally
anything 1 -2 minutes is adequate. Anything longer than that might not keep your audience
engaged for your presentation. On YouTube, I'll click on share. I have a little link
right here. I'll copy this link and paste it. Once it's loaded up, it's going to be
very interactive. I'm going to off click, drag it. Now I can click on the video, it'll
pop up in the big screen, and I can watch the YouTube video.
If I off click, now I can drag it. You won't run out of room on Padlet because if I wanted
to add more things, you just keep dragging the items, and your workspace will keep going
and going. It's like an endless whiteboard that you're adding on.
Let's add some different formatting. If I click on this gear on the right toolbar, I
can change some things. If I click on Wall paper, I can choose lots of backgrounds. On
the layout button, I can choose 2 forms. I'm currently using Freeform which allows me to
drag items endlessly across the Padlet. If I choose Stream, what will happen is Padlet
will order it for me. I can drag items in order from top to bottom, and it will always
remain in a sequence. I prefer the Freeform, because I can put items anywhere I'd like.
The other options, 'privacy', notifications, address: these are different options that
help us manage and share the wall. When you send me your completed project, I want you
to send me the link. You can find the link in the address option. You could copy and
paste this link to me, and I'd be able to see your Padlet the same way you created it.
On the you button, you'll see this notice that you may lose your Padlet in 24 hours.
So it's a good idea to claim this wall. You can login with Google or sign up. I need to
grant access to Wallwisher, that's what Padlet used to be named. Now I have an account, and
I can access my old and new walls. Just click on this little person here, and I can go to
my old walls.
That concludes the timeline! Make sure that you have 15 events and at least 10 pictures.
For extra bonus points, link 1-2 relevant videos into your Padlet.
When you are ready to send this to me, there are a lot different ways to send it or embed
it. The 4th button down on the toolbar shows your export options. The easiest way, the
way I'd like you to do it, is to copy and paste this link, and email it to me.
So, login to your email. Email the link to Mrs. Prak.
Please address me nicely in a professional manner with proper grammar please! As always.
And that concludes the screencast for art timeline project. I can't wait to see your
creations! Thank you!
