they would steal whatever they could the Germans would and i remember at the back of our camp
there was a couple of warehouses, which were full of equipment ski's in particular and
the Germans were breaking in the camp and get through the wire every night and steal
ski's and whatever they could get in this warehouse. Well were not guarding that part
we were guarding our own equipment and lorries and so on and they would see our guards anyway.
when you're wearing army boots going clomp clomp clomp they'd hear you coming. and our
rifles we weren't allowed any ammunition for them and the war was over we weren't allowed
to shoot people, but we got fed up with them stealing things and so there was a big DP
Displaced Persons camp nearby and i don't know who's idea it was, but we had some DPs
mount guard one night and they were given ammunition as well as the rifles and they
went around and saw these Germans helping themselves at this place and they shot several
of them, shot as many as they could. they were trespassing, they were stealing British
army property so we shot them and we were saying well done, we couldn't do it, but the
Germans didn't come back and steal after that taught them a lesson.
