Hi, I'm here today to talk about how to dress preppy. Now preppy comes from prep, which
refers to preparatory school, which is something that really only the elite, upper-classes
of society used to have access to, especially in New England and farther back, England itself.
So the entire reference point for dressing preppy is an old money, landed class, educational
feel sort of for everything. The general fit is, never tight, never vulgar, always very
crisp and clean, fitting the body but not hugging the body and very tasteful. Taste
is really the key to being preppy. Today some people think that preppy is something from
Abercrombie and Fitch, you just put on a Polo shirt, and that's really not what it means.
This is sort of referring to a more upscale version of Abercrombie and Fitch that really
refers to a very choice taste level that is simple, that's classic, clothes that are timeless
is maybe the best way to describe preppy clothes, and in that case we're talking about Polo
shirts and Oxfords, Nautical reference points, plaids, it's very New England, very the Kennedys,
Cape Cod, that sort of thing. The J. Crew catalog is probably the best hallmark of preppy
style that most people can refer to today. So, let's get started.
