In MLA full citations are listed on the Works Cited page, which is started on a new page at the end of a paper.
We’re going to look at this sample Works Cited page to see how it is formatted and how the full citations are listed.
Let’s talk about format.
Like all MLA style papers the margins will be one inch
while the font will be Times New Roman, 12 point.
We will continue to include the last name of the paper’s author and the current page number of the paper in the upper right-hand corner.
The heading, Works Cited, will be at the top of the page and centered.
Throughout, we will use double spacing.
Notice that there are no additional spaces used between entries.
Instead, we use a ½ inch or 1 Tab indent after the first line of each full citation.
This indicates the separate citations.
Let’s talk about order.
Each citation will be ordered alphabetically by the author’s last name or the first word of the full citation.
Notice how the "Days Gone Bye" citation is ordered using its first word: Days.
The same is true with an organizational author like Team Unicorn.
If we have citations that start with the exact same author,
we’ll organize them alphabetically by the title ignoring articles like the, a, or an.
This is why The Zombie Survival Guide is after World War Z.
Since it’s the exact same author,
we’ll also eliminate this author’s name in the second citation and replace it with three dashes followed by a period.
This ends the Citing Sources Series.
