Hi, my name is Jennette Ryan, and I am a graduate dietetics
student here at Eastern Illinois University.
Today I'm going to be showing you how to add dietary fiber
into your diet by making a cappachino mix.
I will be adding extra fiber with Fibersure.
A diet high in fiber has been shown to reduce one's risk
or prevent colon cancer.
Colon cancer takes 28,000 American lives each year.
So just a simple recipe that I'm making today will be a
good start to reducing your chance of getting colon cancer.
You will need a source of fiber such as Benefiber or Fibersure.
Your choice of instant coffee, I chose classic roast.
Whatever kind of milk you want, I chose 1% so I have a little
fat in there to give it a little flavor.
Chocolate syrup, you can have sugar free or regular,
whatever you like.
Sugar is actually optional, I chose to put 2 teaspoons
in to make it a little sweeter.
You need 1/3 cup of water and a little cinnamon for
ltaste, a little sprinkle on there when its done.
So I already mixed my dry ingredients together and
you just need...there's marks on here so I know
how much to put in here, I need 1 1/2 cups of this.
And you could actually either make this recipe hot or cold.
I chose to make it hot because this is actually
a hot-drink maker.
If you want to make it a cold one, instead of putting in
1/3 cup of water you just put two ice cubes in it
and use a blender instead.
So after you add the milk, you want to--it doesn't
really matter what order you put the ingredients in,
so I'll just dump the dry incredients first.
You need 1 tablespoon of chocolate syrup.
Try to get as much as you can out of there.
And your water.
When you add fiber to your diet, you want to actually start by
using a low dose and gradually incorporate more in.
And when you add fiber to your diet, you want
to add more water.
The reason why fiber is so good for you is because it speeds up
the elimination process so that it pushes out the potential
toxins out of the lining of the colon quicker so that's why it
kind of prevents or helps prevent colon cancer.
So after you have everything in here,...you want to
put the cap on tight.
And this should take approximately two minutes
to warm up and blend, so we'll turn this on.
This should make about two servings, but I'm probably
going to put it all in one cup so you can see how it's all
frothy and you can see the cinnamon on top.
So if you made it cold it would probably already be done mixing
right now, but I'm making mine hot so it might take
an extra minute or so.
This recipe that I am making is about 130 calories
per serving and it's about an 8 ounce serving.
It's only 2 grams of fat, about 6 grams of protein,
and it's low cholesterol, low sodium.
Alright, so you just want to hit the dispense button.
And to top it off, a little bit of cinnamon tastes good
on top of the froth.
And this 8 ounce, one serving which is 8 ounces, is a little
more but it will give you 3 grams of dietary fiber.
So there's a simple, easy way to add some fiber to your diet.
Thank you.
