Hello, my name is Janice Evenson. I'm a fitness trainer with Enbridge.
For the next month, I'm going to share my fitness tips to help you on your way to the top
of the Enbridge CN Tower Stair Climb for the United Way.
Make sure that you check with your doctor first if you're new to physical activity.
My first tip is going to deal with what to expect on the day of the climb.
There are 1,176 stairs to climb and there are 144 flights in the CN Tower.
This may sound like a lot, but know that most people complete the climb in under 30 minutes.
And there are also rest landings and there are stair rails available to hold on to on your way to the top.
Now, you might ask, 'What is the best way to train for the CN Tower Climb?'
Well, you guessed it: climbing stairs.
For the next four weeks, you should start incorporating stair climbing into your fitness routine
to help you make it to the top.
Your first week, you should start slow, only doing three to five minutes of stair climbing on most days of the week.
The second week, you should incorporate five to 10 minutes on maybe three days per week.
During the third week, 10 to 15 minutes on two or three days of the week.
And by the fourth week, you should be able to do about 15 to 20 minutes, one to two days per week.
Now, remember to alternate shorter climbing days with longer climbing days.
And you also don't want to do any climbing, or any training climbing, the day before the climb.
I hope you've enjoyed this tip, and I hope you'll join me next week for my next tip, which will involve cross training.
