[Craig Hensley] Where did he go?
[Scott Taylor] He's like something out of a storybook.
[kid] Cool!
[Scott] He usually has a trail of kids following him.
[Craig] Here he is! Here he is!
[Scott] He knows everything.
[Craig] This is a boy because the males are blue.
[Scott] For a kid that can be magical.
[kid] I got one!
[mom] Awesome!
[Craig, singing] Head, thorax, abdomen, abdomen
[Narrator] MEET CRAIG HENSLEY.
[Craig, singing] abdomen. Head, thorax, abdomen, abdomen
[Narrator] THIS IS HIS OFFICE.
[Craig] What's one of the 3 body parts?
[Narrator] A KIND OF WIZARD OF WILD THINGS,
[Craig] Has anybody ever eaten bee spit?
[Narrator] HE HELPS CONNECT PEOPLE WITH NATURE.
[Craig] Now who caught this one?
We have too many children today that never spend time outside and for a lot of these
children that don't get to spend a lot of time outside, they really are huge moments
in their lives. So for me it's just about engaging them outdoors plus it's not bad,
you know, to have little kids come up and tell you they think you're awesome.
[water splashing]
[girl] I got something!
[Scott Taylor] We get a lot of visitors just for the programs
that Craig offers.
[Craig] Oh, looky there!
[Scott] He's an attraction in and of himself.
[Craig] What did you get?
[Susan Malone} We love Craig! Oh my gosh, he's so full of
knowledge and brings nature to life and makes it interesting for kids.
[Craig] See this tube right here? They actually breathe
through that tube.
[Susan] We've taken night tours with him and learned
all about the spiders at night and the crawdads in the river and how they glow and caught
all kinds of insects. And my daughter said it was the best day so far of her summer vacation.
[Craig] Feels like jelly.
[Abbi Glassman] He encourages us to pick stuff up that we
[Faith Malone] never expected to touch.
[Abbi] realized existed!
[Susan] Oh my gosh! I didn't even know I had this
in here! Oh my gosh!
[Craig] Once they get excited, all of the sudden their
parents get engaged and they become like a super hero to their kid because they've never
seen them around a butterfly net.
Oh, wow, that's awesome!
Those kind of interactions to me are very powerful and give me a great deal of satisfaction
that perhaps what I'm doing is the right thing.
[kid] Cool!
[music]
[Natalie Davis] If I ever have a job and I'm not as passionate
as Craig is, I'll definitely feel like I'm missing out on something.
[Craig] Ah, he got you! You're a member of the club!
The highest compliment I can get is for a child to have a wonderful time and be able
to share it with me, those little tiny moments.
[kids] A dinosaur!
[Craig] Nicely done!
That's beautiful!
[child's voice] I caught a grasshopper!
