Hello, my name is Mykel and
welcome to Ex-Theremin-Tal, my video
blog about the Theremin.
The theremin is the musical instrument
you see in front of me.
It was developed in 1919 by
a Russian inventor by the name of Leon Theremin
It is an electronic instrument that is controlled with two antennas;
A pitch antenna here, and a volume antenna here.
The closer your hand is to the pitch antenna the higher the note will be.
The farther away your hand is from the volume antenna the louder the note will be.
This theremin here arrived within [checking clock] the last hour.
I have never played a theremin before, I have never touched a theremin before,
with the exception of a brief sound test just before I started this video,
simply to make sure that it worked.
Though I've never played a theremin before I have been fascinated by them
for quite some time. I've listened to a lot of performances
of the theremin and I've watched a lot of Youtube videos of
people playing the theremin.
I've decided to get my own, and from what I've read and what I've seen
the theremin can be a difficult instrument to learn.
So I've decided to track my progress, via these videos
of me learning how to play the theremin
This is Day One...this is Hour One of me having a theremin
I'm going to attempt to play Ode to Joy, it's a simple song
I learnt it when I was a young kid on the piano --
I figured it would be a good place to start.
Then using these videos I'm going to track my progress by making
hopefur- hopefully regular updates of my progress
talk about what I've learnt on how to play the theremin
as well as showing how my playing has improved,
and eventually I hope to turn this set of videos into simply me performing songs.
So without further ado, here is my attempt at playing Ode to Joy.
So that was me butchering Ode to Joy
with my first attempt at playing a song on the theremin.
I hope that you subscribe to my channel and continue to watch as
I continue to progress in learning how to play the Theremin, thanks for joining me.
