Today, we are going to talk about how to make one of the many different
types of heart lanyards. Before you try this you should already know how to do
both a square stitch and a wall stitch.
To make this heart lanyard you'll need four pieces of gimp that are all the
same length. We'll start by taking two of these pieces of gimp and making a
starting square stitch. Here I have my starting square stitch,
we are going to follow this by making three more square stitches.
Now that I have my starting square stitch and three square stitches,
I am going to attach the other two pieces of gimp on the sides and
turn this into a wall stitch.
To do this, I am going to loosen the loops on the top.
I'll do the left side first.
I'll take this yellow piece of gimp,
put it through this left green loop,
under the green strand behind it,
pull through till I get to the center of the yellow piece of gimp.
I'll make another square stitch here with the yellow piece of gimp and green piece
of gimp. I'll do the same thing on the right side.
Take my red piece of gimp,
bring it under the strand and through the green loop,
pull it through till I get to its center.
Make a square stitch with the green piece of gimp and red piece of gimp.
Tighten up the whole thing.
We've turned our square stitch into a wall stitch.
I am going to take this wall stitch and turn it into two square stitches.
I am going to use these four strands for one square stitch and these four
strands for the other square stitch.
I'll do the left one first.
This yellow strand here will be the bottom strand.
This yellow strand will be the top strand.
This green strand will be the left strand and this blue strand will be the
right strand. I'll tighten this up.
I'll do the same thing on the right.
This top red strand will be my top strand.
The bottom red strand will be my bottom strand.
This blue strand will be my left strand and this green strand will be my
right strand. I am going to use this square stitch over here to be the
left side of the heart.
This square stitch over here to be the right side of the heart.
I'll keep doing square stitches to build up the two sides.
I'll do these like a normal square stitch.
I'll keep repeating doing square stitches on each side to build up the sides of
my heart. Here I have made 51 square stitches on each side.
You don't have to have to make 51.
Just make enough that you can take both sides and put them together in the
middle to make a heart shape.
Once your sides are long enough,
you are ready for the finishing stitch.
