M zone is a mathematical poker tournament concept, created by one of the greatest poker
players, Dan Harrington. The simplest explanation is that M-zone is a calculation of how many
orbits your stack will last at the current blind and ante level. It doesn't take into
consideration future blind levels, so every time the blinds change, you need to recalculate
your m-zone.
To calculate M-zone, you add the BB and the SB and add that total to the number of players
* any antes. So if the blinds were 25/50 with 5 ante and 9 players at the table, the total
would be 25 + 50 + (9*5=45) 75 + 45 = 120. Then you would divide your stack size by 120.
So if your stack was 1200 chips, then your m would be 10.
Formula: Stack / (BB + SB + (#players*Ante)) = M
Example 1:
Stack 12000 Players at table: 6
Blinds 500/1000 Antes: 100
So your M would be (Stack size) / ((1000+500 + (6*100) = 2100) 12000 / 2100 = 5.7
Example 2:
Stack:3000 Players at table: 9
Blinds: 100/200 Antes: 10
So your m
would be (Stack size) / ((200 + 100 + (9*10=90) = 390)) 3000 / 390 = 7.6
