I'm just really excited for everything that's happening right now.
I don't think there's any other school that would give a freshman
the same opportunity that I've gotten here.
I am a Microbiology Pre-Medicine Major. And with Microbiology the professors here are amazing.
Greg Heiberger teaches the Biology 109 First Year Seminar class.
He's also my advisor and he's been one of the key people that has given me so many opportunities here.
By November of last year I was in a research lab, researching.
I was by far the youngest person.
I was with a bunch of graduate students and the mentor I was with actually helped me
write a proposal, my very own proposal, and I got to send it out for two grants and I got both of them.
I infected cells all day during the summer and studied the effects of that.
When I grow up I want to research infectious diseases in biodefense
and I want to work for either The Center for Disease Control or The National Institute of Health.
I'm from Brookings, but I ended up here and I love it.
I would have missed out on so much if I had gone anywhere else.
For me being a jackrabbit means that I go after all the opportunities I can.
It's really opened my eyes to what the options are out there.
