Hello Ben, and the etMOOC community.
Please allow me to introduce myself.
My name is Ralph Sherman and I am a freelance graphic artist with a
bachelors degree in art education,
K-12,
from the university of Wisconsin in Oshkosh.
I am vlogging with you today to propose how our community can help students and
teachers to put
the me back in media.
These are truly exciting times that we live in.
Our technology is now capable of creating engaging content and
disturbing it to the world with little more than an iPad, smart phone or laptop
computer and an internet connection.
As creative citizens in the digital world it becomes necessary to engage
those causes that matter the most to you. As teachers, we all understand the
need to find contemporary ways to reach out engage our students.
As director of blended learning, for the Denver Public School system, I would
implement the BYODA media pilot project at the West Generation Academy.
BYODA stands for, bring your own device apps. Becasue West Gen has what they call
"studio" hours everyday, students are allowed to work on elective projects
together for several hours a day.
This flexibility that West Gen designed into the curriulum, as well as
the schedule and facilities, lends itself to the perfect environment for blended
learning to flourish.
This vlog is being created with software called Moviestorm. Central to BYODA
media will be the use of Moviestorm. Please allow me to show you some
relevant content to stimulate your interest and inspire you to join this
project. A vlog version of Moviestorm software is available as an app for the iPad.
This one minute vlog, made on an iPad with the Moviestorm app,
is by a primary school student who lives in the UK.
Hello!
I use Moviestorm for my primary school homework, because I can make entertaining
and factual.
I add beautiful pictures from the Google images and then put them
into the iPad camera roll
and put them into my video as a backdrop and pretend that I am there.
And then sometimes, I make myself look like a famous person.
I can also bring in my Power Points and present them as if I was there.
I write my script which says what I think and my character immediately acts what I say.
If I want I can and gestures and moods to express points.
It is really quick to use and allows me to stand up in front of class without
embarrassing myself.
And all my classmates find it amazing and want to have a go themselves.
They just need an iPad and then we can all use video clips to express ourselves
in a different way to writing.
Now that boy has created and shared something really special.
I can only imagine how proud his parents and teacher are.
His classmates think that
what he did with the Moviestorm iPad app was amazing
and they all want to have a go at it.
He really makes you want to have a go at it, doesn't he?
Please let me know if you're interested in getting involved in this project at
your school?
I will be posting more vlogs here regularly, so until next time,
be creative!
