Welcome to Charleston, Illinois.
I'm LaDonna Jenkins and I'm a dietetic intern
at Eastern Illinois University.
Two-thirds of Americans are overweight
and they eat out regularly.
Charleston holds over 20,000 people and it's the home of
Eastern Illinois University.
The purpose of my video is to teach families and children
how to eat healthy in Charleston.
Charleston has many fast food restaurants, but today
I'm going to teach you how to eat healthy in restaurants
you can only find in Charleston.
Now let's go.
Welcome to Pagliai's Pizza.
Pagliai's Pizza was established in 1964 and it's located
on Lincoln Avenue across from Charleston High School.
Pagliai's Pizza has been rated the best pizza in Charleston.
Here you can find pizza, pasta, and breadsticks.
Now let's find something healthy to eat.
After looking over the menu, your healthiest option
is a vegetarian pizza with thin crust.
You can also request for just half the cheese.
If you're in the pasta mood, you should go with the spaghetti.
Welcome to Lincoln Garden.
Lincoln Garden is a full service restaurant
located at 703 West Lincoln.
It has a variety of different foods
and is open late on the weekends.
After looking over Lincoln Garden's menu,
I found one of the healthiest choices
was a turkey club without the mayo and bacon.
For a side dish, you could have a salad with light dressing or
cottage cheese or a fruit cup.
Now we're at our last stop.
It's at What's Cookin' and it's located in
downtown Charleston across from the courthouse.
Here you can find lots of different foods, but they're
best known for their breakfast.
Let's go inside and see what we can find that's healthy.
At What's Cookin', one of the healthiest options would be
a veggie omelet with egg beaters and whole wheat toast.
You could top it off with a low-fat glass of milk.
I hope you learned how to eat healthy while eating out
in Charleston, Illinois.
I'm LaDonna Jenkins and thank you for watching.
