In this episode, we will learn the basics of how to create a piece using
information pulled from different pages of a PDF.
Let's take a look Twisted Mockery.
This is a top-down sock pattern.
As we look at the instructions,
we see that the heal begins at the bottom of page 2 and continues
through the gusset at the top of page 3.
With knitCompanion, we can make a single piece for the heel that covers all of
this information.
To begin,
we will make a new piece.
We will select text, since this is for written instructions.
We will name our piece, heel.
We now have to select a single page of the PDF.
So we will pick page 2, since that is where our information starts.
Later we will add to this piece
with information from page 3.
For now we can crop the heel information at the bottom of page two.
As you can see,
we have a piece with that information.
Now we need to add to this, the information from the top of page 3.
Down at the bottom of the piece page,
locate the button
called add image.
It brings up a set of choices.
For this example, we want to put the rest of the heel information below what
we have already done.
So we will select add image vertically.
As you can see,
we also have the option to place additional information next to or
horizontally.
But for now we will pick vertical.
We can now select the PDF page that contains the information we would like
to add.
So
we will select page 3
and tap continue.
Again
we crop the rest of our heel information. And I'm going to include the
gusset, but of course that is knitter's choice.
We tap save
and come to a new screen that allows us to adjust how our first and second parts
are aligned to each other.
For this basic example we actually find that the default settings are
acceptable.
The new information has been added below the existing part and things line up
well.
Tap save and the two images become a single piece.
Here you can see the new piece.
And if we returned to the main knitting page
we can see and knit
from our newly combined piece.
There is a lot of additional capability when it comes to aligning images.
So please watch the advanced video as well as templates to learn more.
Happy knitting!
