CCTV footage showing a man robbing a bank using a hand written note has been released
by Northumbria Police. The man walked into the Nationwide Building Society, on High Street
East in Wallsend, and handed a piece of paper to staff saying that he had a gun and telling
them to pass him cash, which they did. The note ends with a threat that if they raise
the alarm he will shoot them.
Before the man walked in to rob the store, footage shows that he actually went into the
branch twice before.
The first time he is seen hanging around outside the bank's doors before coming in, putting
his hood up, and going up to the counter.
He then leaves the store and comes back again, this time with a striped hat on.
The third time, and this is the time the robbery happens, he comes in without any hat or hood
on and takes the cash.
He then left the building with the money. No gun was seen and no one was injured. The
robbery happened at 1.20pm on Friday, 15th March, 2013, so a year after it happened police
have made a fresh appeal for more information to catch the man involved.
