We are condition scoring cows from the right hand side so that the rumen doesn't interfere
with the score that we give her.
The first body part we look at is the backbone, and as you can see the backbone is,
is raised and ridged, and you can see the individual notches, so the body condition
score of the backbone is a 3.0
The long ribs, you can see the individual ribs, the last three ribs of the long ribs,
and they're sharp to touch, so we have a body condition score of three on the long ribs.
The short ribs, you can feel the individual short ribs along the back but they are not
sharp to touch at the front so she has a body condition score of 3.0 on the short ribs.
On the hip bone there is very little fat around the sides and you can feel the individual
points of the bone. She has a body condition score of 2.5.
On the rump there is a reasonable amount of cover on the rump, but it is still sloping
away from the backbone, body condition score of 3.5 on the rump. The pin bones are pointed,
very little fat around the pin bone, the body condition score of a 3.0.
And the tail head has a very deep V shaped indentation so a body condition score of 2.5.
The thigh is reasonably well covered, a body condition score of 3.5. Overall the cow has
a body condition score of 3.0.
