There are usually only a few times in your life that someone or something truly inspires
you. That’s what this class has done for me. My sense of online community has grown
as I have begun to develop a personal learning network through Twitter. These connections
have put my innovative and creative energies into overdrive. I want to know more and do
more. I see first hand how having an active and present instructor motivates and encourages
me to risk and explore. I want to be this for my online students. I see how having involved
classmates has provided guidance and models of excellence. I want my students to provide
these for each other. Seeing and hearing each other through video and audio tools allows
the participants to become “real”. The many, many applications, resources, and tools
available today make this not only a possibility, but a necessity. I know the door is open,
and I have only just crossed the threshold. During the next few months, I intend to continue
to develop my personal learning network by expanding it through following blogs of professionals
I desire to emulate and growing my Twitter community. I also want to become an active
contributor to my network, to complete the circle of give and take. I have already begun
and intend to continue developing mini-video lectures for each of my class units to embed
my social presence, and I will expand the collaborative learning opportunities in my
class with some of the new tools I’ve learned such as Google Docs and Ning. It’s an exciting
time to be an educator and a learner!
