They say an eco-friendly house can't be built 150 days for $150,000, and I say it can. I'm
Allen Smith, join me as I push the limits with time, budget and creativity with the
Garden Home Challenge, exclusively on eHow Home. To help save money, one of the things
we did here in the house was to take and use barn roofing, this tin you see up here, for
our ceilings. Well, the cost was a considerable savings. I also used the same material in
the master bedroom over here, but the finish application is a little different. Come on
in here, let me show you. Of course, in the kitchen, I kept the ceiling natural, galvanized,
because it matches all the appliances. In here, I decided to paint the ceiling -- so
this is the same galvanized ceiling, but we put two coats of Snow White flat paint up
here. And I think it works really well with the molding. It finishes off the ceiling nicely.
And then we put a Hunter ceiling fan in the center to help cool this room. It's white
-- it all works together. It's a thing of beauty. Why is it beautiful? Because this
cost next to nothing to put in. Hey, if you're enjoying these updates on the house, check
in with us regularly. We're about to finish up the house and starting the decorating.
