Move over flax seeds. Chia seeds are the starring seeds and they're not just for gag gifts this
time. They're everywhere in the supermarket. From snack bars and snack treats to the seeds
themselves and drinks, it's in everything. And if you're looking for recipe ideas, the
internet, food websites and Pinterest are full of them. So, why add chia to everything?
Two main reasons- Omega-3 fatty acids and fiber. Just 1 tablespoon of this tiny seed
has 4-1/2 grams of fiber and 2,000 milligrams of Omega-3 fatty acids. Research suggests
chia may be beneficial for heart health and weight loss. Just limit it to a tablespoon
or two a day. That's all you need. There's been some research on Omega-3 as being really
good for brain function. So, I think chia could be a really great brain food. Ready
to jump on the chia band wagon? Find chia seeds in the health market at your grocery
store and just add the whole seed to smoothies, oatmeals, sprinkled on a salad or added to
a stir fry. Any way you like it. I haven't tried it yet, but I've been reading about
Chia Fresca which is just chia seeds in water with a little bit of lemon or lime juice and
some sweetener. Sounds really good. Chia seeds are an easy way to add nutrition to your everyday
meals.
