Hi im Toddy, I had an aneurysm 6 years ago
I was cutting tress in the garden when I collapsed
when I came to I realised I was cutting my arm off
with the chainsaw, I was taken to a hospital and stayed there for 14 weeks
The main problem with an aneurysm is frustration
trying to get a word out in a statement
you know what you want to say but can't
I go through very tired periods
I don't read like I used to
sometimes I go through a pile up relapse
and have to fight to get back.
After 14 weeks I thoght I was ok
now id be talking to you in the town and the sons would be gone
and id say to Dolores "who was that man we were talking to?"
And I actually thought that I was alright
but I told them in Headway Ireand that it was 18 months before I was alright
but my wife informed me that it was 4 years before I was alright
because I had lumbar punctures
I had an awful lot done and it took me 4 years to get over it
It took me a while but basically im almost back to where I was
My doctor in Dublin who performed the opertion said
I have 98 per cent of my facilities
and I said what about the other 2 doctor
he said I can't give you them
so when I repeated that story to another lady doctor
she said "what about that 2 per cent Toddy?" and I said "I never got that"
so ive nothin to lose really
Ive started to get up around half past 8 now. I used to do that before
I used to stay in the bed till 11 or half 11
but now ive gotten to that state of health where im feeling great
we built a new house and I can get out and do the garden
rather than getting someone else to do the gardening for me
and everyday is an experience
at the moment now im just looking at the boy's going around in the boats
in the bottom of the garden which is great
I used to have my doctor saying to me "you will have to get rid of him Toddy"
"if you had of had the aneurysm in the boat there would of been no hope for you at all"
