The latest “ARK-LA-MISS” briefing for March 17th, 2014.
Overview.
Weekend rainfall graphic. Most locations saw a decent amount of rain late Sat into early
Sun. A large portion of the west-central and northern half saw around 1-2 inches. The
highest totals were more focused and across the SE counties. While parts of the SE
received 1-2 inches, two concentrated bands were noted where 2-4 inches fell.
This is primarily for agricultural purposes as we want to highlight the potential
for patchy frost and a light freeze. This is due to the time of year where various plants
are budding, growing and have tender vegetation. These conditions will be highlighted
anytime freeze potential exists after March 15th. Lingering clouds tonight complicates the
forecast and makes it hard to pinpoint which areas will get the coldest. Any area that sees
clearing, could easily fall to around freezing for a short period.
High temperatures for Tuesday. By afternoon, breezy conditions will develop across the NW.
A dry cool front will move across the ArkLaMiss Wednesday. Expect seasonal conditions.
Maps depicting frontal positions for late week. Overall, dry for Thursday & Friday. Look for a
warming period as winds become more southerly, especially on Friday.
An approaching cold front and upper level disturbance will help increase rain chances over
the weekend. Confidence in this evolution is low, thus rain chances are on the low side,
generally 20-30% for this weekend.
