Hi, this is Miranda Thacker with your KYTC Minute.
We're at Riverview Park in downtown Frankfort. Lots of people are enjoying Kentucky's lovely
fall weather by taking walks or riding bikes. Sadly, the number of pedestrians and cyclists
killed or injured on Kentucky's roads increases this time of year. Troy Hearn, the Transportation
Cabinet's Bicycle and Pedestrian Program Coordinator explains.
Voice of Troy Hearn: Statistically nationwide -- most of the accidents and unfortunately
fatalities happen in the fall. The shadows seem to be a little more extreme -- the glare
of the sun can be a little bit more extreme. It gets darker earlier -- so "See and be Seen."
As a cyclist and as a pedestrian it's very important to be predictable. Part of being
predictable is really just following the rules of the road -- and the laws of the road. The
Transportation Cabinet has additional resources available for cyclists, pedestrians, and motorists.
