Call ahead for Red Tide. Red tide you don't see.
Sometimes you see red algae on the water and that's not red tide -
it's just an algae. And uh, there's red tide in here
all the time, but when the water's warm and the weather's warm
it becomes prolific and grows, and that's why they monitor it.
Uh, the next thing is a safety precaution if you're going out,
especially on that side over there: You'll sink right up to your nose.
So what you do if you go out in there is you should take a bucket
with you. A shovel will kind of help you,
but not like a bucket will.
Most people go in and they start to sink down, and pretty soon
they're down and they start to try to turn around and it just
pulls you down. So the thing to do is just back up the way you came in
as much as you can, and use a bucket to hold you
while you pull your boot out, because if you try to pull
your boot out, your boots will come off. Uh...
we had a couple out here - a couple younger people -
goofing around, but uh, a boy and a girlfriend,
and the guy was big enough that he carried her
on his shoulders, and he went over there and got stuck
and I had just showed him not to do that.
So we uh, threw them buckets
and
the girl woudn't get off the guy's back, and uh,
finally somebody talked her off
because that was more weight than his distributed weight
on his legs, so, uh,
they took the buckets, but instead of...
...so, what I'm saying is,
they didn't listen at all ( laughter ) because they
put the bucket this way, and it just went down, in further.
The uh,
finally there was a fireman who was one of the fathers of the two
and he told them all they needed to do.
The other place I saw somebody go in was down at Freeland, and uh,
the Fire Department had to come and get him out.
Last year, or was it last year or the year before?
Somebody down south was buried up to their nose
and they had to hydro-pump him out.
It just sucks you right down.
I've been caught, but not that seriously.
I was always able to back out.
