>>Wade:Hi, I'm Wade Wingler with the INDATA Project at Easter Seals Crossroads in Indiana.
We have many times talked about the importance of digital text, the fact that sometimes it's
hard when you have a disability to grab a hold of a book or even a receipt or a business
card. So today we're going to spend a little bit of time looking at a new portable scanner
that will take anything you can put under the scanner and turn it into digital text
that's easier to handle. >>Anne: So today, I'm going to talk to you
about the Magic Wand Portable Scanner from VuPoint and what it is, is just a scanner
that is extremely light and incredibly portable. All you do is set it on the page and make
sure it's flat and move it slowly across the page. What it does is pick up printed material
and allow you to upload it to your computer. Something to note about this, is you have
to have a micro SD card, otherwise it won't work. We're learning all sort of ways to make
this a piece of assistive technology. For example, we are working with someone right
now who's in cooking school and uses it to scan recipes. That way, he can have the recipes
when he gets home and put them on his computer without taking the book with him. So if you
are mobility impaired and can't carry a book this is great, also if you are visually impaired
or have low vision, this is also a great tool because the information you upload to the
computer can be read with a screen reader or even magnified. So, that's your tech tip
for today. >>Wade: So, that's your tech tip for this
week. I'm Wade Wingler with the INDATA Project at Easter Seals Crossroads in Indiana.
