Hey Friends!
Mike here, and today I'm gonna talk about Midi Keyboards. Which one is the best allround
midi keyboard for studio purposes?
There are plenty to choose from, but I have narrowed it down to three suggestions. If
you have any other suggestions, please share it a comment.
First up is the Akai MPK midi keyboard and controller.
It has features that are very popular among beatmakers. Pads to trigger sounds, a note
repeat function, built in arpeggio etc. There are 4 versions of the keyboard. 25,
49, 61 and 88 keys.
The 49 key version seems to be the most popular. It has semi-weighted keys with aftertouch
and lots of faders and controls. One drawback is that the 25 and 49 key versions only have
12 pads. Otherwise I feel like this is a really nice allround keyboard for music production.
Next is the Novation SL mkII. It boasts to be the "only truly intelligent
midi controller". I don't know about that, but it comes with an automap pro software
which supposedly makes it easier to map faders and controls to your DAW synths etc.
The keys are semi-weighted with assignable after-touch. The rotary knobs has LED rings
to provide visual feedback.
It also has a large display that can show a lot of parameter information.
It comes in 3 versions: 25, 49 and 61 keys.
My last suggestion is the M-Audio Axiom Pro. It comes in 3 versions: 25, 49 and 61 one
keys. It has semi-weighted keys and aftertouch.
It has a total of 65 midi-assignable controls, such as 9 sliders, 9 buttons etc. But only
8 trigger pads.
So my personal favorite of these would be the Akai MPK, mainly because I make beats
and need a good set of pads, and if I choose the 61 key version I would get the full 16
pads.
Alright! So what's your favorite midi keyboard?
