I started dance when I was 30, and I did a touch of everything,
like ballet, contemporary, jazz, African.
And I like contemporary. It's nice, it's loose, it's flowy.
I have a tendency of being like stuck in my head,
so when I dance, it's kind of joyful. I let go, you know?
I don't think about anything apart from that movement, that moment.
With my daughter, I thought it would be a good opportunity for her,
so that she's got a different way of seeing things, viewing things.
It's like you're saying stuff, but you're not actually saying them things.
You're expressing yourself and using your body to say a story instead.
Antoine and Catarina work really well together.
It's proper blending,
where one person will say something to us
and they kind of finish or they have a pause,
and then the other person will come in
and say exactly what I know they were gonna say.
So their partnership is brilliant.
Sadler's Wells approached Wayne McGregor Random Dance
to do this community project,
and I asked if Catarina would be interested to come and join me
in leading that project.
It has been really an amazing experience
because they all come from different backgrounds and different ages.
And for us it has been really challenging
to create a piece with all these people together
but at the same time really interesting and fascinating.
It must have been really challenging, I think, especially for Tehya,
because she's the only one of her age group.
(Catarina) She was there with Mum,
but at the same time Mum was part of this group of people
and she just had to be independent, on her own,
and I think that took a while for Tehya to understand that.
But once she did, she did really well
and she really integrated herself in the group and had her part
and it wasn't any more about being with Mum with all these people.
It was about her within the group.
Dance as a whole brings out things within yourself.
You gain experience, you gain fitness.
It even might give you the idea that I'm not too old or I'm not too young.
I can do it. I don't wanna stop.
I don't think anybody should stop themselves from doing what they love.
(applause)
(cheering)
I've got a ballroom and Latin background,
so I wasn't used to moving in that particular way.
There were times when I thought, "What am I doing here?"
"It's totally alien to me."
But I'm so glad I completed the journey.
I've actually said to them they have enriched my life,
because I can now use them as a role model
for not just dancing but other parts of my life, of ways to treat people.
(Antoine) It's a changing experience for everybody.
Being really passionate about it
and really trying to share that passion with other people
and being able to get that passion out of them as well is really great.
So we're all working together.
That's it. Now Uphold World Tour. Go on.
