Here's a question for a viewer who writes, "What are some tips for child proofing my
home now that my baby's mobile?" Well, boy, that's a really important topic and I've had
the experience of raising twins as well as an older daughter. So childproofing for my
husband and I was almost a religion for quite some time. My first piece of advice is if
you can, get out ahead of it before your baby is mobile, but if your baby's mobility has
already progressed a little bit, here's some tips to get you started. Really look at your
home from the ground up. Stuff and the things that provide the most danger are at your baby's
level when they're crawling or exploring. That means potentially dangerous cleaning
products under your kitchen sink, under your bathroom sink. Things like electrical outlets
are important. Fireplaces, because of the hearth are often a site to bump foreheads
and other parts of a baby as well as they're exploring. Also, coffee tables, if you've
got some sharp edged pieces of furniture and a lot of knick-knacks, my advice is to really
put them away for this time in your life. You'll have a lot calmer life and won't be
yelling no all the time. And will also save yourself probably a few episodes of stitches.
But, you know, shop around at baby stores and look for some of the devices that are
out there. There are even little locks to put on the toilet, because the toilet, you'll
see, provides endless entertainment as soon as your baby can stand up. And it's obviously
not a place you want your baby to be. So, hopefully that gets you started. Good luck
to you on this exciting adventure of your baby's mobility. And thank you for writing.
Thanks.
