This Information Technology Services video will show you how to download and install Sophos Antivirus.
Sophos is an antivirus program offered by the University of Idaho for current students, staff,
and faculty to protect their computers from viruses and other threats.
ITS supports Sophos installations for both Windows and Macintosh machines
Before installing Sophos, please make sure that all other antivirus programs have been uninstalled from the computer.
Otherwise, the programs may conflict, preventing them from fully protecting your system.
Some providers like Norton have their own specific uninstall tool.
Check your antivirus provider's web site or contact the ITS Help Desk for uninstall instructions.
In addition, you will need to agree to the UI Antivirus Agreement.
In a web browser, navigate to help.uidaho.edu and log into the Account Management site using your NetID.
Then, under 'University Software', click on 'UI Antivirus'
Finally, read through the agreement and click 'I agree' to gain access to download Sophos.
Once you agree to the UI Antivirus Agreement, you will be provided with a quick link to the UI software download page.
Click on the link, and then scroll down the page.
You will see a section titled 'Sophos Antivirus'
Select the Sophos installer for your operating system.
Enter your NetID credentials when prompted and wait for the download to complete.
If you are using a Macintosh computer, be sure to select the correct installation package.
Personal and University owned computers use a different installer.
To install Sophos, run the downloaded setup file.
The windows installer will prompt you to select a computer type. University owned computers
should use the 'University owned/operated computer' option, and personal computers
should use the 'Personal, home, or non-campus computer' option.
Select the computer type and allow Sophos to install.
Once Sophos is installed, a tray icon will automatically be added, and Sophos will begin downloading updates.
[Macintosh OSX]
Double click the .dmg installer package.
Select “Continue” to confirm that you would like to install Sophos, follow by “Continue” again to start the installer wizard.
Read and agree to the terms of use and license agreement.
You may be prompted to enter your admin password. Enter it and press OK to continue.
The installer will show a progress bar, and you will see a screen stating that the installation was successful when it has finished.
Sophos is now installed on your machine and is already working to protect your system.
Please note that when you leave the university, you will need to uninstall Sophos.
This is part of the license agreement that you accept when installing the program.
If you have questions about uninstalling Sophos, encounter an error in installation,
or need assistance in scanning your system, please contact the Help Desk.
