Today we're making a pair of lavender, coin pearl earrings.
The materials that we'll be using
are: two coin pearls,
they're lavender in color in this case.
There are no two pearls that are exactly the same so if your pearls are not exactly
the same, don't worry about it. They're going to go on either side of your face anyway,
so it's not a problem.
Two four-millimeter Swarovski crystals,
two ear wires,
and one piece of 26-gauge round
gold-filled wire.
The tools we'll be using:
one small pair of flat-nosed pliers,
one small pair of round-nosed pliers,
diagonal nippers,
and a small micro crimper.
The first thing we're going to do is straighten our wire out a little bit.
Just run your fingers down it to straighten it out.
The fewer kinks and bends we put in it,
the nicer the finished product will be.
Then we're going to
slip the pearls on.
Put the bottom
on first,
then a crystal,
then a pearl,
and the last crystal.
Then we're going to flip that over,
and just put a little bend with the flat-nosed pliers, so that they don't fall off.
Now we're going to move those down
so that we have some room to work.
Take those flat-nosed pliers,
bend at approximately an inch
to make a ninety degree angle.
Use your round pliers,
put them in that elbow.
Now you want to -- you want both loops to be the same size
so you want to put it into the jaws the same distance.
So you may want to mark that with a magic marker.
Take that end,
flip it up over
the round part of the plier. Flip the plier over --
you don't have to take it out --
and bend
the looped piece around
the tail that you have hanging down.
And you want to wrap that around
two or three times
you may want to tighten those up a little bit if they get a little bit loose. Use your flat-nosed pliers
and bring them together.
You'll have a tail.
Take your diagonal nippers,
put that in there. Cover it, so you
don't hit yourself with that flying piece of wire.
Now we have a rough edge and we want to take that and put it right in the first groove
of our crimpers,
and just tuck that in.
Now that gives you a nice, smooth edge,
the difference between a professional and an amateur job.
Ok, this end is finished, so we need to cut this off
and we're going to cut about 3/16 of an inch,
a little less than a quarter.
Now,
we have our piece,
we want to take our round-nosed pliers,
fold that down.
Just give it a good start,
and take the micro-crimpers, put that in that first indentation again,
bend it down till it meets the bottom of the pearl,
and you have that piece finished.
Now we take one of the ear wires,
take your micro-crimpers,
open the ear wire by pulling
the end
toward you,
without misshaping the ring.
If you just pull it open you'll never be able to get it back into round, so just pull it
toward you a little bit.
Thread that on,
and move it right back there where it was.
Then your earring is finished.
You do the other one exactly the same way,
and you will have a pair of beautiful earrings
that in a catalog
will sell for between
$50 and $100, and in a jewelry store, considerably more than that.
And it just took you a few minutes to make them.
