What we need for the baklava a couple of things we're actually going to setup up a little
assembly line that how it's usually it's easiest to do this and all the different steps. Your
going to need some filo dough it is very very thin pastry sheet get it in the frozen section
of your grocery store in the freezer and you will need to thaw this. I left mine in the
refrigerator overnight you don't want to lay it out for to long because it will dry out
but long enough where you can unfold it without cracking. So this batch has been in my refrigerator
all night and it's still kind of cool but it was easy enough to unfold and handle. Your
going to need 2 sticks of melted butter you can use margarine if you prefer that butter
does have a richness than margarine doesn't so I prefer using butter unsalted that is
best for baking. So melt those 2 sticks of butter in a sauce pan and another thing you'll
need for our assembly line is a mixture of cinnamon, sugar and pecans. You'll need a
cup of pecans and I like to put them through a food processor to get them really really
fine, because when you layer everything together you don't want these big chunks of pecans.
So you have a cup of pecans that have been chopped up very very finely a cup and a half
of sugar and 4 tablespoons of cinnamon, nice little causation. I'm going to add a little
bit more of sugar I already added some I think it needs a little bit more. For the tools
for this dish your going to need a pastry brush which you can find pretty much in any
grocery store or your favorite cooking hardware store. A big baking dish 9 X 13 this is actually
a 11 X 13 pan just depends on the filo dough that you buy, some filo dough is a little
wider than others just really any dish size dish will be okay. This one is about 2" deep
it doesn't have to be that deep it can be a little bit more shallow the pastry won't
puff up to much cause we are using quit of bit of butter, so it won't puff up or rise
to much. But you'll be layering so you don't want something to to thin but it doesn't have
to be 2" deep like this one less is fine.
