The Kanchenjunga Expedition 2012
Hi, my name is Adrian Valean and I would like to talk to you about the expedition.
We have planned for it to take place shortly in the Himalayas on peak Kanchenjunga.
How long will the expedition last?
The expedition will last for about two months.
We will leave from Bucharest and travel through Istanbul, Bahrain and Kathmandu.
The next step will be a march of about seven days.
Then we will begin setting up and going through the intermediary stages.
This will take place at an altitude of about 7500 meters where we will set up the final camp.
Then we will go down to basecamp in order to rest.
The weather conditions should be favorable for the final climb.
We will climb back to the intermediary camps.
The final climb will last for about ten or twelve hours.
The retreat is usually more difficult due to fatigue.
Another factor is the technical difficulty of the route.
We think that the retreat will take about six or eight hours.
The climb will take place without the help of the Sherpas and without additional oxygen.
We will set up the entire trail and the intermediary camps.
Who are the ther members of the team?
It is an international expedition.
Another Romanian climber will participate, his name is Horia Colibasanu.
Peter Hamor, from Slovakia will also accompany us.
There will also be two climbers from Italy and two climbers from Spain
An expedition such as this one would be impossible without an intense team effort.
At the same time it is about overcoming certain endurance limits.
I am talking about the pscychological aspects as well as suffering.
The conditions are very harsh.
The limits of your body are pushed.
I think it is important to pay attention to yourself and also to your friends and colleagues.
What are the results you are hoping for?
At the end of the expedition we will hopefully be the first Romanian team to reach the peak of mount Kanchenjunga.
It is the third-highest peak in the world and one of the most difficult.
Have a safe and easy trip!
Thanks again for your support and I hope to see you well in two months.
