>>Gustavo My name is Gustavo. I am a print maker. I make prints on paper through etching,
lithography or silk-screening. When you think of an artist, you don't think labor intensive,
but when it comes to print-making, it's really physically intensive. There's a potential
to be really, really messy. When you pull the print off the press, it's really, really
satisfying to see those blacks or greys or the blues that come off the plate onto the
paper. Since all the facilities and equipment is here, it's really, really easy to make
things. It opened up a lot of new possibilities that weren't at Elkins Park. I'm wearing a
Temple Rome apron. It's from Temple Rome. I got it there when I was studying abroad
last year there. Since then I haven't washed it, which is kind of gross, but it has the
marks, the history, I guess. I took some courses that were mind blowing. Rather than just sitting
in the classroom and looking at slides you would go out into the field and look at actual
work, which was pretty cool. I learned how to use a camera in a way that it became an
extension of my hand and a tool in my art making. The organization I started working
with this past summer is called LIU. They have an extension for the migrant education
of the area. They asked me to teach a photo course. We ended up making a book that we're
currently working on. Helping these people you know learn photography I was giving them
somehow a voice. It's satisfying. You go home and you're like I just made something today.
