A couple of things about Dulce if you guys don't know
1 she's got over 2 million subscribers Over 250 million views 800+ videos that's
a lot of videos I think what's most impressive in this she's
been doing this for over seven plus years Amazing actually the same amount of time as
Judy So like is one thing to be successful here
and there but to have that kind of longevity Cuddles to you - Thank you - Thank you so
much is there anything you wanna say to it or add to it
Aah you know when you love what you do it doesn't feel like it
And if it does come from a place of loving it you know I think you are going to have
longevity The first thing I wanted to do is have you
explain your story you know in a nutshell From your first upload on YouTube to where
you are at today in 2015 What that journey was like for you for the
viewers that know that might not know who you are
Well I began in 2008 a long time ago and at that point I had just gotten back from the
army And wanted to look for a place that I could
feel like a woman because you couldn't be a lot like
Very feminine in the military -Yeah - So I discover the beauty community -Judy same thing
- And Judy was one of the first ones - Really
wow - Yeah exactly Judy was one of the first ones
I started watching and I remember her videos from back then
And I just fell in love with the community and just being a woman and expressing things
That I love and yeah up to this point It's being a long journey ups and downs and
I've grown a lot 'cause I was very young and immature and now
I'm in my late twenties so it's been A long journey but very fulfilling
Awesome yeah and back then it was a smaller communities you know
YouTube was like small ponds right? - It was like a 100 beauty channels
Yeah - a 100 - Yeah - isn't that crazy ? - there's gotta be like tens of thousands now right?
Oh yeah So next questions is something out of your
book which by the way let's do an orally shout out
To the sweet life by Dulce Candy Ruiz and in this book you talk about some of the challenges
Of YouTube and overcoming those challenges .What are some of the challenges like for
A new youtuber or somebody that's looking to start a channel can expect to face and
how To overcome them ?
I think for me the biggest challenge that I ever came across with YouTube is stepping
into A world that I was not use to so declining
a lot of opportunities because I was afraid of being in front
Of a lot of people in front of a crew and I think that comes from a place of me not
really Being comfortable in my own skin and feeling
like other people judging me But I definitely turn down a lot of opportunities
because of fear - Yeah Yeah So I really learn to just face the fears and
do it because we are capable of doing those things
Absolutely and I know a huge part of your book is that fear and overcoming that fear
Specifically to some of the hate or the negativity that's on YouTube
I mean I know a lot of people that is not only stop their YouTube channel
Or that prevented all together in starting a channel because their like afraid of the
hate and The negativity of the trolls or haters can
you talk about how you have to face it and any tips
That you wanna share with maybe other young women and men that might have to face that
Yeah I actually get a lot of questions regarding that because even some people that want to
start YouTube channel they are even afraid of their
family or friends or like close people judging them
And amm picking at them specially if you are like junior high or high school and you
want to Pursue your passion on YouTube amm but for
me I just I separate just the even the good comments
And the bad ones I don't take them personally because if I believe the good ones then I'm
gonna believe The bad ones as well and at the end of the
day is not really nothing personal even if it seems that way
But you shouldn't you shouldn't let other people's feelings towards you hold you back
from pursuing Your dream
Yeah I think that's a good point like and not to get too deep and getting your positive
energy From inside and not getting that from exterior
- Other people exactly - I like that I've never heard of
That, like you want to acknowledge your supporters but you don't want that to be your only
Driver because then you are acknowledging the negative as well
Alright so Dulce on you know that YouTube has grown and it's huge now right?
Specially in the beauty world like start a new channel and stand out it's not easy
And I don't want to say like when you and Judy started it was easy you guys had to work
very hard Specially if you think about it wasn't even
like widely known about right? So it was a much smaller
Pool of people What advice you would give to people for starting a YouTube channel and
How to stand out like how to get your channel known get more subscribers and get more views?
Aah ok I have a few tips - love it love it - aah first and foremost this is a very basic
one but you have to Be yourself because there's already someone
else that's been successful you have to be yourself
Because that's all that you can offer you and that's fresh and new and that relates
and connects with Other people you have to be true to yourself
I do believe that now a days since there is a lot
Of channels out there collaborating is very vital just to get exposure from other channels
I feel like Back then it was kinda like not as you know
maybe you feel like people are taking advantage of you
But now a days I think is very important to collaborate with people
Probably one of the easiest ways to grow it's to get expose to an audience that doesn't
know you Exactly and don't give up I know it takes
a long time but don't give up just keep doing it
persevere So one thing that is specific to you that
Judy and I both have look up to you guys and Jesse because I know
That Jesse helps you with some of the tech stuff
You have such great quality when it comes to your videos, and it's not just a recent
thing It goes way way back do you have any advice
for a new youtuber or maybe an establish Youtuber about techy equipment you know the
stuff that makes your video looks good Well I like to start off with I did invest
some money into the equipment like a good camera
Good lighting you don't have to spend a lot of money but definitely if this is going to
Be like your passion and your career you have to have good equipment I believe
So invest in something great specially a good camera and a good lens I like to have a 15mm
In general because there is a lot of room to play with that.
And also when I'm editing my videos I don't do it all at once I like to step back and
do it in a few days And always ask myself how can I make this
better even if it's just a text or a transition or something like that
Very discipline are you apple or pc ? - Apple for sure - Totally
You know one thing we've learn is you are right you don't have to spend a lot of money
you just have To know where to spend it
Lighting round Coke or Pepsi ?
Coke for sure Yes
I'm coke too Yeap Pepsi is wack Last thing you grab out of the fridge
Orange juice Instagram or Snapchat
Instagram barely starting to get into Snapchat Air dry or blow dry
Air dry Air dry mmm
Pumping gas or pumping iron Gas
Glee or Game of Thrones Aaam
If there was a zombie apocalypse and you could have just one item what would it be
My son - it's not really an item A different perspective of it
What about you? I would say samurai sword although I've heard
that one actually cuts their heads off or whatever
Lipstick or lipbrush Lipstick
Favorite YouTube channel that you watch Watermelondrea do you know who that is? He
does so many skits and one of the characters he does
Is watermelondrea and it's so funny you have to check it out is hilarious
I'll check it out for sure Song you have on repeat
Selena Gomez' Good for you In your book you give a lot of dap to your
husband your great husband Jesse About being so supportive and I guess being
a husband manager of Judy I can relate To that right? - Yeah - And you know specially
being on YouTube and doing something so different Whether is on YouTube or any other social
media platforms trust is a huge thing right? Specially
In this industry being so new not knowing who's got you best interest at heart
Do you have any advice for people that might want to work with their husband wife significant
other family or friend when it comes to their YouTube business?
I actually think it's a blessing to work with my husband and I know you can totally relate
to that To your wife - Yeap
Because there is nothing more important in this business than to have someone who has
a 100 percent Your best interest
Because there might be people that come into your life and they give you all this beautiful
talk About how they can work for you and do all
this amazing things, but at the end of the day
I know It's a business and I know people you know , it comes down to money
So it's really nice having someone who is not about that and just about you and focus
on your Wellbeing in general so I think that's a blessing
So if you can find someone that has that kind of interest and I know that's very typical
now a days For vloggers and everybody to have you know
their other half involve So with Youtube and being so competitive and
so many different channels out there you of all people
Know the importance of branding again in your book you talk about
How to create branding uum you know to be successful on YouTube
You know outside of the fact that you still need to create great content
Can you discuss a little bit or share a little bit of your wisdom when it comes to branding
yourself And your channel?
Aam well I like to align my self when I do collaborations with other brands, with brands
that Are also going to help me grow so it's not
just a one way street of helping a brand promote A product but also how is that brand help
you grow as well as a business and as a brand Even YouTube alone you know , I do believe
that is not you shouldn't focus on just taking Every single deal because that is not going
to give you longevity in this YouTube career You know you have to think outside of the
first paycheck or that one product that you are endorsing
Or whatever definitely has to be outside. And just use it to your advantage as well
they're using you Might as well get something to helps your
brand as well Totally and hopefully I am not giving too
much away from your book But one of the things that I learned was like
the words what are the words That describe who you are what you brand is
so you say like five words And yours lets see if I remember
I don't even remember I think one is latina right? -Aja - fashion
, beauty , family uum I think mother was another one
There might be one or two more but you know like having those words and it
Even made me think about my branding or Judy's branding so that's great advice
That lead us to really my last question which is this book The Sweet Life by Dulce Candy
Ruiz Go check it out we'll put the link down bellow
but is there anything that you want to share About this book with the viewers because on
a personal note I just read all of this except For all the beauty stuff at the end and it's
a great book for anyone to read especially for
Young women right? And even you aspiring youtuber it's a great book because you give a lot of
the Basic principles the things that we share
on this channel but in addition to all that can you talk about
The book and what you want people to know about it
Well I got a little I got very personal actually specially in the first half of my book because
I went Through a lot of situations where I really
doubted myself as a teen and I made a lot of wrong choices
And what I want women and young girls specially to know is that we all have this similar things
that We go through and sometimes you feel like
you are alone So for me it was very important to share my
struggles and fears and insecurities And all of the bad things that I did a long
with the good because I don't I would hope to spare
That kind of negative feeling if I could you know
Totally yeah yeah Yeah and being a father and a hearing your
stories as a young woman that's I think That wasn't necessarily the goal but your
stories are just so transparent So honest right that I think anybody can appreciate
what you went through and sharing that so Bam
Dulce Candy we'll put the link to her book down bellow
Check out her YouTube channel we'll also put that down bellow
They've got a whole bunch of channels her and her husband Jesse
And they have a cute son Issac and he just started a YouTube channel as well
