Good Evening, everyone! Welcome to the George Show.
My guest today is a popular singer with a problem.
Singer, could you tell us your problem?
Sure, George. Call me Lady G.
You see, I dropped out of college after just two semesters.
Now that I am famous, I want to finish my AA degree to set a good example for my fans.
Going back to college is a great idea!
Have you chosen a school yet?
Have you chosen a school yet?
Yes. LSCC!
Fabulous choice! A great education close to home.
So, what is your problem?
Well, as you know, I travel a lot. This is why my accent sounds so weird.
How do I know if I am a Florida resident for tuition purposes?
Oh, that is a good question.
The state of Florida supplements the cost of instruction for people considered Florida residents for tuition purposes.
Out-of-state students pay more than $200 more than out of state students.
That is $600 or more extra per class!
Exactly. Since I donate all my money to charities like the AIDS Foundation and PETA, I cannot afford out-of-state tuition.
The state of Florida requires you to have permanent domicile in Florida for an entire year before you qualify for in-state tuition.
Ok. I bought a house in Eustis more than a year ago. I should be fine.
But wait! You must prove your residency by providing the school with evidence from you and your parents.
My Parents? Really?
Yes. Unless you are an independent student.
How do I know if I am independent?
Independent students must be either 24 by the first day of the semester to which you have applied,
be married, have children that receive more than half their support from the student,
have deceased parents, have been declared a ward of the court,
or have been classified as independent by Financial Aid.
Well, I'm not married, and have no desire to be...
But, I am over 24. I guess I am independent.
Yes, I would think so.
So, how do I prove I am a resident?
You must submit at least two pieces of documentary evidence.
Like what?
Like your driver's license, Florida voter's registration card, and Florida vehicle registration.
Remember, you must have two of these documents. Just one doesn't cut it.
I have a driver's license, but I may not have that other stuff. Is that all LSCC will accept?
No. There is a full list of acceptable documents on the LSCC Web site.
Go to http:www.lscc.edu and click "Admissions," then click "Residency Information."
You will see the list.
Fabulous. Thanks, George! J'adore.
It's been great having you on the show Lady G. Good luck with your eduction.
Goodnight, everyone!
