So, you've lovingly filmed and edited your family holiday footage. But something's missing.
It doesn't have that 'oomph' you hoped that it would have.
What you're missing is sunflare, a special effect that really isn't used enough. There's
no excuse, as it is very easy to add. Simply click on the Event FX button for the video
footage, and choose 'Sony Lens Flare'. Click 'Okay' and you'll be greeted by this screen.
At first, it doesn't look as though it's done anything. Turn up the intensity and things
really get exciting. Some people say that more is less... but not me. The more the better
I say! But the fun doesn't stop there. Oh, no. You
can adjust the perspective if that's what floats your boat. Changing the tint reduces
the colour, but I prefer pretty things so I'll keep that at a minimum.
You're not limited to one type of lens flare, though. Oh no! Simply choose another from
the 'lens type' drop-down list and play with them to your heart's content. I'm going to
choose this one, since the more elements, the better. You can adjust where the flare
comes from here. But why not go further? Clicking on this button
lets you animate it. For this one I'm going to click at the end of the clip and drag the
position across to the other side of the screen. Playing this clip back now, you can see how
it moves as the video progresses. Incredible. But why stop at one? To add more, click on
this icon and double-click on lens flare again. And again. And again! Keep doing so until
you're happy, press OKAY and select the one you wish to edit. This can take a while, so
here's one I made earlier.
There, much better. Hope this helps. Next time I'll be adding lots of smeary mess on
the camera lens to immitate Crysis. Or Battlefield. Or any other modern game! Have fun.
