Para: It's the same thing everywhere, man.
- There isn't any difference between having
a band in Romania and having one in Germany?
- So, you consider it as being the same thing?
- You pay rent on your rehearsal space,
you play some gigs,
30-40 people come to your show,
a couple hundred,
maybe five hundred if you get the chance to open for a big band.
It's ok…
Costin: Nobody writes about you anymore,
even your best buddies stop coming to your shows…
Viez: We don't even have 500 likes on facebook …
- What?
-We don't even have 500 likes on facebook …
- Ohhhh noooo!
- Ten years ago we used to dream about ending up like Metallica
and having gigs in huge arenas with tens of thousands of people attending.
But then as time went by…
Fane: At least we got the chance to play at "Arenele Romane''
- We played in a tent at ''Arenele Romane''
- Yeah, we got to play in a tent at ''Arenele Romane''…so we came close.
-At the moment, I think it has got to where we consider it as a hobby.
I mean…if you like it, you go places, you do gigs,
have fun and that's about it.
- I think the difference is between those
who can actually manage to sustain their hobby and those who can't.
If you can afford to support such a hobby, you play shows in other countries
thus getting to see places as if you were on holiday.
You basically need money to go on holiday…
Fane: On a holiday with all of your gear alongside you.
Radu: A holiday where you have to carry a lot of stuff.
-Exactly…you sleep and eat as little as possible and you carry a lot of stuff.
-It's like in that crappy Hollywood comedy - Eurotrip
- Yeah that crappy Hollywood comedy.. All of them!
you go on tour, your van breaks down…you manage to make some money…
- Haha, what money!
- But there's also a lot of fun!
-I used to long for those school summer camps from 6th or 7th grade…
-I've never been on a school summer camp…
-Costin is oldschool….
-Yeah…so everytime I got drunk and got all nostalgic about life,
I used to think about these summer camps and how cool it was.
And ever since I met these guys and we started going on tour
with little money and with a broken van with flying wheels,
I started thinking it's about the same thing.
-It's a bit weird to be that band that's between scenes…between genres,
and judged by people from each scene in different ways.
Actually, you know what?
If you like music, like the attitude and actually have a taste for guitar distortion,
then I don't really see the problem.
If you do see it as a problem,
it means that you listen to a certain genre based on what your friends say.
And personally, I find that quite sad.
But maybe this is a good thing for us. Because for the first time,
we weren't obliged to do only one specific thing.
Each of us comes up with his own stuff, with his own background
and then…what comes out of the process is what we consider as being our own.
-We're already in too deep on this side to change things now.
I think that if I were to come up with a song with Romanian lyrics,
it might end up awful.
-What would be the name of that song?
-I don't know…''Moartea'' (''death'')
-The first time we were on tour and our album had just come out a few days earlier,
we arrived in Ankara and found the first person that actually knew some of our lyrics.
And that was really cool because, something like that never happened before.
Not even in Romania.
-You should always consider the fact that
there are a lot of bands out there (big names even)
that release an album on a certain date,
but that specific album is already on torrents a couple of weeks before.
And since we are not that known
AT ALL
what would be the use of not releasing our albums as a free download also?
-I'm gonna announce it as a premiere…
-The new EP is called ''Memory Hole'' and it will be out…we'll figure it out later.
-We will announce it after it comes out.
-It's our third studio title.
It's a three song EP because we didn't managed
tot find another band to get to release it
on a label as a split with another band.
(Para) - We remained the only band that releases things
- In the end, if we can't manage to find anybody,
we'll put it out ourselves.
-Or we could record three more songs and make a split album with ourselves.
-Yeah. Never thought about that.
-Nobody actually thought about that.
-Yeah. And on the backside cover we could write ''Mediocracy' mirrored.
It's like that joke about the woman milking a cow
and in the reflection it was the other way around.
-Like…the cow was milking the woman…
-I would personally like it if it would be possible for the Internet
to go down for a whole month.
I mean…I know it's 2012 and all but…
- Yeah but try to live without internet for a whole month and see what happens!
- I know it would probably suck, i admit it
but maybe then people would actually start to appreciate it.
-I think that if the Internet blacked out for a whole month
you would see lines getting bigger and bigger in front of kebab places
-I find this whole ''Romanian Revolution''
thing that is going on in the last month to be extremely stupid.
You will never see a true revolution in this country
because this people is not capable of such things.
If you were to look throughout history you would see that.
It doesn't matter how many facebook petitions you make.
-It might sound stupid but the people here are not angry about anything.
You ask yourself why the heavy music scene is so small
and that's because they don't treat it seriously.
Even musicians play it like they're going to buy groceries or something
not because they're angry and they have something to say.
I might be speaking out only for myself
but i like this music not only because it's heavy and what not.
i like it because i'm pissed off at everything in this world.
- I agree completely.
-And that's what keeps me going. That's what keeps all of us going.
-And there's another thing besides people not being angry.
Maybe most of them have never probably been angry at anything anyway.
And nobody believes in anything anymore.
-Something has to happen sooner or later.
the devil needs to get out of everyone
-You ask me about a revolution in Romania.
*** that!
Remember last summer when they ambiguously presented
that so called ''protest'' on television
so that it would seem that there are a lot of people
gathered in front of the government?
-They were actually filming "Ghost Rider 2''
And all of the sudden you see something mind boggling
and you present it on tv with a big "revolution in Romania title"
and in reality there were two organized stages with crappy singers
and people dancing and having fun
what the *** is this *** man,
if you fall for stuff like this you deserve to live like you do...
-Coming back to the first question about why we put out another album
the answer is that we're so very angry about everything.
