HIPPY stands for Home Instruction for Parents
of Preschool Youngsters. It recognizes the parents to be their children's first and best
teachers and it provides them with the tools and resources to help their kids prepare for
kindergarten and therefore succeed in school.
Through HIPPY I learned more things. How to
bring up the kids. What all the essential things they have to know in this age.
It's very useful for me.
We take HIPPY to their homes. So its their
comfort zone and the home visitor is there not only to instruct them, but also to support
them and also to bridge them to other programs and services which are available in the community.
What I have seen with the parents and the child, the bonding is much stronger because
they have the time, they have to take out the time, 15 to 20 minutes to sit with their
child, read a book and do the curriculum. They start with very basic things. It benefits
the child but it is the mom's whose English also improves a lot.
HIPPY was a great, innovative program that we chose to actually bring it to the newcomer
families, or even immigrant families and their children to actually help them not only learn
more about the Canadian culture, about the Canadian school system but also to boost their
self esteem to actually reach their highest potential.
The teacher said "Your son is so amazing! He knows so many things. He knows so many
vocabularies. At this age he knows the alphabet. He knows how to write."
We do believe that education starts from home and turning the home into an educational environment
will help the children learn better and succeed in the future in their studies and in their lives.
I feel so comfortable because a little bit
I feel proud and I feel happy that my son knows everything and I am the HIPPY mom!
I am so proud. Really.
