Hello I’m Samantha, I study Statistics and Finance at LSE (London School of Economics) yea I’m in my first year.
Em I’m Jia Yee. I’m doing my masters in Economics at SOAS (School of Oriental and African Studies).
We gonna use Instax to take photos of people doing… just living their life, and then we're gonna make observations, like from a third party point of view.
We... we met after the meeting and we went to Tate Modern and there's a cafe near Tate Modern. So we were brainstorming for ideas.
And then, the cafe seems to be like a… a greenhouse. Yea, like very small, simplistic kinda cafe.
And then I was just thinking you know, what if we are just like em small people in a cage and there are giants around and they are observing what we are doing.
And also like we wanna give explanations for everything that you don't actually have to explain.
Because when we went to Tate Modern, we actually like both of us not being art students, we didn't understand most of the art work. so… like…
One of the main things we talked about was how people always interpret stuff that might not even need to be interpreted, like (yea) explaining artworks that are meant to be just like that but they give too much reason.
A lot of people, they don't actually go to museums, dances performances, theatre performances because they are afraid that they do not understand.
And our point is art should not isolate, so this is why we want to put it in a way, because like we don't come from fine arts backgrounds. So we hope to bring art closer to our audience.
Well, it was pretty scandalous because em I received like, you know this slip and it says that em your collaborator is intimately related to one of the organizers.
And I'm like what! I thought it was Nasri's girlfriend or something.
And the first thing that I told her is em "I don't believe in statistics". (laughter) So that was pretty bad.
So it's like trashing all... all the things she studied.
Before the thing I actually got like a bit of clue from my sister (that's biased) that my partner is someone extremely, extremely pro in whatever she does, like the field that she does. And I didn't know that she does theatre and stuff.
After I saw the slip I was like oh *** my partner is gonna be so much better than me and I like don't know how to contribute, but after talking (I'm very frank) yea. I realize that...
Ok we actually have a lot in common like in terms of personality and stuff.
