Team University of Louisville is really pleased to support this event and one of the many
reasons that we're doing it is the pediatric child cancer. Such a devastating disease and
even with all the research that's gone on, we don't completely understand why it occurs,
when it occurs, when it recurs, and we've got great researchers and clinical care givers,
physicians and nurses in the UofL department of pediatrics that are doing great work in
this area. We're one of the top rated pediatric cancer care programs and research programs
and what caught my attention about this event were several things actually. First off, there's
been a misperception within the downtown area and the surrounding areas here in Louisville
that St. Baldrick's Foundation pulled out and weren't doing anymore events. Well, this
is now the 12th year that they're doing an event here and we're here to prove that they're
here to stay. Dawson is our patient here today. He's an 8 year survivor. He was diagnosed
with seven brain injuries/spinal tumors when he was six months old. He has done five complete
years of chemo at Kosair Children's Hospital with our wonderful staff there and our doctors
there. He's now, not necessarily in remission, but he's been off treatment for two years,
so we take each day as it comes and we love it. We love being part of this organization
and supporting this event. They raise more money than anybody but the federal government
for pediatric cancer research and all of you folks who, whether you're gonna shave or whether
you're gonna give or whether you're gonna do like I do and like I'm going to do and
do both, it's a great cause and I hope that you'll give generously. Many people already
have over the website, but it's really a great cause and we're doing good things today.
